To prevent all the replica topics that are being made about the connection problems players have been having with FFXI since the new update, I am making a new topic and going to post the problems that have been listed, and solutions that have been suggested.
Please ONLY post if you have something to add that has not previously been mentioned, so that people do not have to read through pages of the same posts.

Known Problems:
1. Player logs into FFXI, and receives R0 which eventually disconnects the player. Zones that have been mentioned are: Buburimu, La Theine, Selbina, Port San d'Oria, Ru'lude Gardens, Eastern Altepa Desert, Garlaige Citadel, Dynamis-Jeuno, Jeuno (many others have been mentioned in this thread)
2. Player can not get past the "Acquiring Player Data" screen
3. Player receives "FFXI - 3113" error and can not login.
4. Player can not get past "Accessing Server Lobby" screen

Possible Solutions:
1. Change your IP Address -->If you have a router: enter your IP address in a new internet browswer window. Find the area where you can edit your MAC Address and change the last 4 digits. Turn off your modem for 10 seconds, and turn it back on. Refresh your IP address information page, and the IP address should be changed. [Edit: Ishmael posted this link which has instructions on how you can change your MAC address]
2. Have someone else who has your account information, log into your character and move them to a new zone. You still will not be able to enter this zone however (This is for those receiving R0 in certain zones)
3. Set your internet connection to be directly to your modem (remove router)
4. Download today's update (March 12th 2007)
4. Use a dial-up connection if you were previously using another internet connection (Cable etc)

Possible Solution to R0 Problem" (posted by Zerayla)

**NOTE: I called SE Support today (03.13.07) and the rep informed me that the connectivity problems is due to a "3rd party" server that apparently "went down". He said that their department was informed that they are in the process of trying to get it back up and running, but they were not given any kind of ETA

Has anyone tried to tcpdump what's happening with R0?
I have various packets being dropped from an IP from Japan on the 33xxx port ranges

I use ethereal http://www.ethereal.com/download.html

Basically for some reason these packets are dropped at my end here to cause R0 and d/c

Just FYI on POL/SE Updates

As of Mar. 9, 2007 5:00 (PST), we are aware of connection related issues with an underlying backbone outside of our servers control. This is not affecting all ISPs. This is affecting NA and EU players primarily. Please try again later.

yay I can use Airships now XD

Actually I'd like to add one more thing:

My OS:
Windows Vista Ultimate
CPU: Celeron 2.93GHz
RAM: 2GB
ISP: Comcast
Router: Linksys Wireless N

For this router's web tool make sure you remember the password you may have given your router at the time of setup. In my case I had to manually change the MAC adresss and the last digits of the routers IP addy. Some might have to change both is all I'm saying so look out. Also you're broswer or Windows will tell you if the IP u gave wont work. Just merely go back to the web tool for your routher and change it.

Firebrand is stuck in sea at R0 and he can't move to a difference zone because he can't click on anything to let him out. Any ideas for him?

He needs a friend or someone who he can trust to logon his character and warp/exit out of the area.

Worked for me when I couldn't click the P.Sando Airship arrival door.

Edit: Everything has been fine for me now, although I have avoided Sando like the plague.

Is anyone else having trouble downloading this patch/update. I try and download it, and it's just stuck on 0%, and the time remaining never comes up, just won't download anything.

This happened on my Xbox for "Preparing the Download" and dling the actual files.

I clicked Cancel, the next time around it works. Maybe that'll help, can't be certain.

he can try zoning into Temenos. that might be a 'ok' zone for him.

I've gotten to the stage now where I open POL, enter my password, and at the "Checking POL viewer version...do not remove devices while connecting" or "Connecting to POL... verifying POL ID and password..." screen, it just waits, trying to connect indefinitely.

Router had already been removed, connection is directly through the modem. Changed IP + MAC. Had already downloaded 12th March patch and logged into FFXI earlier. All other online games (Supreme Commander and UT2004) work fine. All other online apps work fine (AIM, MSN, IE etc). The PC prior to the first March update had been working fine. Have since formatted HDD and clean installed WinXP and POL/FFXI, without any interruptions in downloading the patches.

Don't know if anyone else is experiencing this, but I thought I'd just see if anyone else was having a similar situation. Going to adopt a 'wait and see' approach for now.

Concerning the Connectivity Issue (Mar. 9): Follow-up

We understand some players are still experiencing connectivity issues when they are trying to log into FINAL FANTASY XI or while traveling through various areas in FINAL FANTASY XI.

Again, our team of technicians investigated and confirmed that our FINAL FANTASY XI servers are working properly, and our service is not experiencing any technical difficulties at this time. However we are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the issue and will make every effort to assist in remedying it.

If you are having connectivity issues, try connecting to FINAL FANTASY XI again at another time. We deeply apologize for the inconvenience you may be experiencing."

bullsh*t

i called tech support yesterday Nik, they told me they were having "server issues" but when I asked about the difference in the message they had on the website he goes "erm... ill have to ask my supervisor about that..." lol... /slap SE for being stupid

cant even get into POL ; ; ... 9/10 times anyway, the other 1 time i try to login to ffxi, and dont make it past the first trying to connect screen, then timeout or w/e... so annoying...

just addin Oldton and Newton are R0s zones

I was stuck in a zone earlier, and devifoxx gave me the genius(no sarcasm, it was brilliant because I didn't think it would work at first) advice of walking to another zone while I was disconnecting. I disconnected as I was zoning, but when I reconnected I was in a zone that worked and was able to warp back and continue playing. Those that are trapped with the R0 problem might want to try doing the same thing if you can.

The areas are different per character and per user from what I can tell. I have one character who got R0 in Port San D'Oria. Another R0'd in Eastern Altepa. I just can't conceive of how SE can keep trying to tell people that SE isn't the issue when this is far, far too random and widespread to be on our end. I somehow highly doubt my pc, isp or my modem has anything to do with it when one character is having R0 issues in a zone while the other one doesn't. It's ironic to me that they introduce all this new content to keep people coming back and yet they don't seem to be taking it very seriously that so many are having problems.

EDIT: Yes, what Baj said does work. Someone mentioned it in one of the other threads and I tried it a couple days back to get through. Even though I had to log in several times to get across the zone, when I logged back in after zoning, I was fine.

when 100,000 customers are having the same problem i doubt that SE doesnt have a problem with their serversi dont give a fuck how many times their technicians test them
