corrupt

This may come off as a dumb question, but... So my AIM (v 6 and 5) and Firefox just came up with corrupt files and nothing came up after a chkdsk. Am I better off reinstalling both firefox and aim or should I do a complete HD wipe? If I'm going to do a complete HD wipe I'm thinking I'm better...
