sam or rng

So my SAM is lvl 58. I was thinking of skillig up Archery on my main and going SAM/RNG to xp pts on birds/puks/flies since they are weak to piercing. I have two questions. First, is 58 too low, meaning not enough equipment available to make it better DD then SAM/WAR going polearm on these...
