Adding users to private forum

This is more of a question than a request, but is there only the one way to add users to private forums now? Previously we could search by username and add them to our forum, but now it seems like they have to submit a request to join which I then accept or deny. Is that the only way or am I too dumb to figure out how to do it the old way?

Currently the only two ways to add a user to a usergroup are:
1. User requests membership through the UserCP -> Misc. -> Group Memberships
2. I add the user to a usergroup.

Usergroup leaders do currently not have the option to add members.
