There's about a billion anime/manga out there. What do you like to read/watch, what have you read/watched in the past and enjoyed?

These are my suggestions, and be warned, there are a ton of them, so I'll need to spoiler tag them as there are so many I am gonna suggest XD

Manga to read:

Spoiler:
Naruto, Bleach, One Piece (The Big three of Shonen Jump, though I highly recommend One Piece over both Bleach and Naruto to be honest),
Dragonball/DBZ (A must for any manga reader)
Detective Conan (Case Closed, genuinely intriguing series built around mystery and inspired by the work of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes)
Buso Renkin (A fun short series)
Black Cat (Amazing and awesome)
Berserk (BLOOD GUTS TITTIES!!!! And one well developed story, it's been in serialization since around 1988)
D.Gray-Man (Really fun to read, based around an alternate end of the 19th Century)
Death Note ('Nuff Said)
Bakuman (By the guys who did Death Note, this is a manga, about manga)
Katekyo Hitman Reborn (Baby Mafia Hitman with magic bullets that make people act out their dying wishes by ripping off nearly all their clothes, hilarious, but also quite action packed)
Soul Eater (Really cool art style and an interesting story)
Fairy Tail (I could say One Piece but with magic instead of pirates, but that'd be lazy and somewhat of a lie, but if you like/love One Piece, you will definitely love this)
Rave Master (By the guy who did Fairy Tail, this is his first work, really fun to read),
Shaman King (Fun series to read about dead spirits who fight along side their Shaman masters)
Yu Yu Hakusho (First work by the author of Hunter X Hunter, it's a fun series about a punk who dies, and has to work to get his soul back into his body)
Eyeshield 21 (American Football with crazy antics by a zany team of players, a must read, even if you aren't a fan of the sport)
to-Love-Ru (Latest series by the creator of Black Cat (But recently cancelled due to certain events *ahem >_>) and it's quite a funny harem manga to read, even if it isn't totally original)
Negima (A series about a ten year old British Wizard who is sent to Japan to teach a class of 31 beautiful girls, hilarity ensues!)
Hunter X Hunter (Awesome series, but unfortunately is plagued by hiatus)
Hellsing (Britain vs Vampires in the most badass way imaginable!)
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (Amazing horror series that started life as a visual/sound novel, then turned into manga/anime/live action movies
Umineko no Naku Koro ni (Successor to Higurashi and MY GOD IT IS EPIC, FUCKING, WIN! ;) )
Ral Grad (Short series, rather enjoyable)
Rosario Vampire (Starts out as a monster of the week harem series, but it quickly evolves into something more, read the sequel series as well if you do read this)
GinTama (Funny as hell series, words do it no justice)
Gantz (Rather good series, not much else I can say about it)
Fullmetal Alchemist (Another Must Read, it's amazing)
MAR (Rather fun fantasy series to read, fairly short)
Saint Seiya (Knights of the Zodiac, This manga is rather rare though so you may have trouble finding volumes 1 and 3 if you plan on buying it)
Dr. Slump (Early Akira Toriyama, funny as hell)
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (MUDA-DA!!!!! ORAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!)
Claymore (Really cool series about Demons and Demon Hunters with Demon Blood, well worth a read)

Anime to watch (If your gonna buy, I suggest importing really as it's way easier to get a larger catalogue of anime to chose from in the US compared to the UK):

Spoiler:
Berserk (Ends around volumes 13 of the manga so... D=, if anything, watch the series first then the manga IMO)
Dragonball/DBZ (Of Course, btw, remastered editions of Dragonball coming soon thanks to Funi)
One Piece (BEST. ANIME. EVER! Even the filler is fun to watch, around 410+ episodes now, with the DVDs coming)
Excel Saga (Jesus this crap is funny!)
GinTama (Also one hell of a hilarious series)
FullMetal Alchemist AND FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood ( First series goes off on a filler end and 2nd sticks to the manga plot)
TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN (*Universe explodes then restarts itself from how epic win this series is!*)
Any Gundam Series (Especially the Universal Century Timeline shows, however, AVOID GUNDAM SEED AND GUNDAM SEED DESTINY!!!)
The King of Braves: GAOGAIGAR (Super Robots made to absolute perfection, also completely destroyed what Evangelion brought with it, thank god)
Death Note (Overrated but still rather enjoyable)
The Slayers, Slayers Next, Slayers Try (Awesome fantasy series based off a series of Lite Novels)
Spice and Wolf (A rather adorable romance series)
Cowboy Bebop (AN ABSOLUTE MUST! This is also one of the rare anime series where the dub is superior to the original Japanese audio)
Outlaw Star (This is another amazing series with a superior dub)
Any of the works of Hayao Miyazaki (Trust me on this, Miyazaki is basically Japanese Walt Disney)
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Higurashi Kai, Higurashi Rei (Again, trust me on this one)
Umineko no Naku Koro ni (While not as epic win as the Visual Novel, it's still really fun to watch)
Black Cat
Akira (One of the best films ever drawn onto cells)
Ghost in the Shell (Film)
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and 2nd GIG (If you like the film you'll like the anime)
Escaflowne (A mix of fantasy, mecha, and even a mix of the shonen and shoujo demographics, a really fun series to watch)
Hunter X Hunter
Yu Yu Hakusho
Buso Renkin
Detective Conan
Chrono Crusade
Hellsing Ultimate

That's just about all I can suggest at the moment. Hope this helps ;)

Well I wouldn't really call them "Americanified", I mean they don't do the shit that 4Kids do with replacing references to the culture, especially seeing as nearly all anime DVDs are released with Dual Languages as an option nowadays.

Furthermore some dubs are indeed great, for example, FMA's dub, Cowboy Bebop's Dub and Outlaw Star's dub. Furthermore some dubs have improved, for example, Funimation re-released DBZ so that no episodes are uncut and all the voice overs were redone, as well as including the option for the American soundtrack by Bruce Falkner or the original soundtrack from Japan, as well as remastering the images so that they are of a higher quality.

I'm with Gerry here. I don't quite get what you're calling "Americanified" because there is no such thing. Sure anime's like Dragonball Z and Bleach got popular in America, but they were also huge hits in Japan where they came from.

The only things that pop into my head as "Americanized Anime" would be shows like Teen Titans or Avatar because they are indeed American cartoons that mimic the anime style in many aspects.

Now.. if you don't like fast paced male fighting animes where one battle last 10-20 episodes then that's a whole other topic in and of itself. lol

I guess in order to narrow it down, we would need to know what you like to watch in animes. Some people love the relationship dramas. Some people love wacky comedies. Some love a good action packed anime. Some enjoy fantasy animes with good stories. And then there's Gerry and his mecha addiction.... jk Gerry.

I haven't checked out Gerry's list yet, but obviously it's huge and full of a lot of really good titles, many I'm sure I would suggest as well.

americanified means like... more battle/ combat in it and less storyline =3 i like animes which have a story to them rather then just random battling for 20 episodes lol

Technically though, that can come down to battles becoming filler material rather than it being "Americanified". Say for example that the anime is coming dangerously close to catching up to the manga (Case in point on numerous times, Bleach), the animation studio will need to pad out fights and prolong them so that the mangaka can get further ahead.

I guess what you are referring to would be known "Shōnen" anime rather than "americanised". It's basically just anime that tends to be aimed at young teenage boys and is full of combat and action. Stuff like Naruto, Bleach, Dragonball Z and Yu-gi-oh etc all fall under that demographic. I personally don't like that stuff much nowadays either since I had my fill of DBZ as a teen quite a few years ago and it just doesn't appeal to me now.
