Wow I didnt think when Obama said he'd like to see a playoff, that congress would take it serious, but its started. "The political football that is the Bowl Championship Series lands in Congress this week as lawmakers examine whether the system for awarding a national championship is fair." Its been in sportscenter all day, let the debates begin!

Shit, Obama isn't to thank for this. Did you not follow college football last year or the year before? This was headed to congress before Obama was in office, which is why he was asked about it.

A playoff would be fair I agree. But something inside of me likes the Bowls and here is why. The Drama. It's great TV to find out who will get in, especially if it's a tight race. I'm a U. of Southern Mississippi fan, so my team will never have a shot at a BSC championship, so thats why I have this opinion I guess. The current system makes the season so much more meaningful, every game and I mean every game counts. It's crazy.

The only part of the BCS that isn't fair is when you consider little teams like USM or Utah. True they do well in the bowls, sometimes, but really, they couldn't tread water in a Big 12 or SEC SEASON schedule. The better team usually wins or comes in second, which is the problem. I really don't like the way the rankings work. That's really the only thing that needs a tweek but how to do it is out of my head. The only way to do it, imo, would be have the bigger conferences play out like they do and have the smaller conferences segregated into their own realm. Then from the winners of both you play a game or two. There are issues with that situation as well though... Personally, college sports shouldn't mean so much in this sense. They technically work as intended; to provide free schoolin' for kids and work as a show-case for the pros. Really, it's the media and the fans with the problem here.

Me living in the South and a fan of USM would love to join the SEC obviously. Yes I would have to put up with 4-5 win seasons for years, but I believe after 4-5 years we could get to 8 wins lol, which for me getting to see the likes of Florida, LSU etc every year would be fun. With our recruiting record against Ole Miss, MSU here and our record against them, I truly believe we could be the school in Mississippi to that people would talk about.

Hell even now, we steal recruits from them, which is very tough for a non-BCS school to do. If we were BCS, I believe we could severely put a dent in Ole Miss. I mean, we're already the biggest school in Mississippi.

Ok anyway. I'm ok with the BCS in general. I would just like them to reformat it. Like how the winners of conferences get an automatic bid. That is bull crap! How does a 4 loss team get in over a 2 loss? Terrible (I'm looking at you Big East, ACC). I truly believe USM has a shot at 10-11 wins this year and we wouldn't even sniff the BSC unless we went undefeated. Utah and Boise St. has represented the non-BCS teams well, so the argument can't be made that they don't always deserve to be there.

I gotta be honest, that's the only really good idea that exist, imo, for the fixation of this situation; for smaller collegiate programs to be absorbed into the bigger conferences. Over time they'd get better and will definitely get better chances recruitin' better players, not top notch and not right away of course, into their system.

However, there is a flaw in this path that is to serious to make it a reality unless they stick to it with just their football programs. Conference affiliations are not a big problem, if even one at all, for the other sports. While I think it's the best solution to the problem for -football- it would just screw with even more sports makin' things an even bigger mess.
