HBO's John Adams- quite the prestigious piece
7 part mini-series, 1st 2 episodes aired sunday night. Raw, rugged, legit. Giamatti is nothing short of phenomenal, as is Laura Linney.
Really dug the bit between Jefferson, Franklin, and Adams discussing the 1st draft of the Declaration of Independence, and how they alluded to problem of slavery, yet were unable to fathom a solution, nor was that their objective, so they was like "meh, we'll get to it later..."
In an era of our history that is quite often romanticized, this series gives the most accurate portrayal of the time we will ever see. No one is going to go back and re-tell the John Adams story. It was not a pretty time to be alive. The small pox scenes give me the eeby-jeebys.
I was hoping they'd run all 7 episodes this week, but alas, it's sunday nights only. Usually I wouldn't care about a series such as this, but Giamatti, and the overall integrity of the series, I'm just blown away. Say what you want bout 'Merica now, but these folks did something for humankind and the world then, and this series is the most realistically accurate telling of their story we may ever see.
