Cold news from AQ Interactive this morning. Mistwalker’s third Xbox 360 game has been officially canned. We haven’t heard much about Cry On since it was announced so this isn’t a totally unexpected. Still disappointing news though.

Now we won’t hear Hironobu Sakaguchi’s story about giants and humans living side by side and cry over it. Being a tearjerker was one of Cry On’s selling points. AQ Interactive explains the current and upcoming market conditions as the reasons why Cry On is being canceled.

Canceling projects on Christmas is just how AQ Interactive rolls.

Being officially canned on Christmas... damn... that kinda sucks.

Mistwalker made good games, the problem is that Microsoft tried to sell them as "Final Fantasy" quality and they're just not that good. They are like Square's old school games with high def skins, but Square advances gameplay with graphics. Or at least they used to - right now all they do is sell super nintendo games to DS owners.

And that's a bad thing?

Anyways I hope they've got something to fill the void otherwise, who knows what Microsoft will do.

I guess that depends on your perspective. From my point of view, the people buying these games are the people who played them over 10 years ago and loved them. These people already bought the Snes version, and then the PS1 version(that's me) and are now going to triple dip the DS version? A pox on that, I say.

I bought FF1 for the PSP myself, never having played it on the original Nintendo. The game is fine but I learned something important about myself. I can't play a full length RPG on a tiny 2 inch screen. If I was 10 years old, and went on a lot of trips where I wasn't driving, it would make a lot of sense. Right now I do most of my gaming at home, where I have a high def TV at my disposal.

But these games make Square money, and eit keeps the lights on until they make a game that matters to me, if they ever do again.

It really depends. When someone already has a game like Final Fantasy IV, in 4 different versions, one of which is already a handheld, voice acting doesn't make the story any better. But if you didn't have any of the older version, then it would maybe be worth the $40 to have it on a mainstream system. Personally, i'm happy with the $20 i paid fo FFIV and Chronotrigger on the PS1, which go figure, is also a $40 DS game.
