Custom Built Desktop Help

Ok thank God I didn't rush ahead and buy that ddr3 cause of higher numbers haha

With the advice I got from here, I purchased 2 gig of corsair ddr2 dominator memory from newegg with full lifetime warranty and a 40 dollar mail in rebate.

$54.00 total (free 3 day shipping too) to replace my older sticks which were likely half as good as what I just bought...good deal :D Thanks again for the help!

This sounds exactly like my issue, and I will be following this guide word for word. Thank you so much for this post (Arc too, I musta missed the memory diagnostic thing). Hopefully this turns out to be the culprit and I can just replace the memory no problem. Thanks again!

Heh, GL on the memory.

New memory is in- so far I haven't had any of the freezing or reverberating sounds when running crysis which is getting me kinda excited. The menu lag in crysis that I had before is back though, so I'm not sure if I've just been lucky up to this point.

If my two old turbo sticks prove not to be corrupt, is it a bad idea to put those in the other 2 slots with the 2 corsair sticks in for a total of 4 GB?

The memory will clock back to the weakest memory. So say, if one is 533 MHz and the other set is 667 MHz, you will have 4 sticks operating at 533 MHz.

ew. so better to just stick with my 2 dominator 1066 mhz ones then?

Depends on the speed of your other 2 sticks of RAM. Also, just b/c you have 1066 MHz doesn't necessarily mean they are running at that speed currently.

How do I check to see how fast they are currently running and, if necessary, speed em up to what they should run at?

Once again sorry for all the newbie hardware questions :P

Your memory can potentially run at the highest clock speed your motherboard supports.

If your motherboard supports 1066, then your memory on autoselect, should be running at 1066.

If your motherboard only supports 667, then your memory will be running at 667, if at all.

If your motherboard supports 1333, and your memory is 1066, then it is running at 1066.

I wouldn't really OC memory/and FSBs too much unless ya know what you're doing.

As for determining what your memory is operating at, somewhere in your BIOS it will probably indicate the speeds.

Again, we do not know how fast your other 2 sticks of RAM are. If they're both 1066, then it doesn't matter what your motherboard supports as they'll both run @ the same speed. The problem, herein, only lies on if they're made to run at different speeds.
