I actually like the big orange square for infractions.
That should be the picture next to the infractions list on the User CP. Too often I get the red dots mixed up with someone who actually rated me down. But then I realize there's only been one time I've gotten three rate downs in a row.

Well, to get all hippy on everyone's ass, I firmly agree with the idea that a human can do whatever they want to their own standards and still lead a happy ,be it healthy or not, life.

Take the man in the story for example. He made the mistake of getting sucked into the great circle jerk of one's ego, which is of course any MMO(rpg, fps, puzzle). He neglected his responsibilities, which lost him his marriage, and left him for the game that made him happy. Like a previous poster said, men are simple creatures and will selflessly, depending on the willpower of the subject in mind, destroy everything around him in order to do the activity the man wants the most. He is most likely happy to be divorced, with little regret aside from the loss of a "loved" one, which fades in time in most cases. He will most likely continue to do what the mmorpg tells him to do until something better comes up such as another mmorpg, career oriented goals, another family, or any other goal mankind can make up. (war, romance, any type of meaning)

Take this situation out of societies' eyes, and you'll notice that there is nothing wrong with man's primal selfishness to acquire what he wants the most, but of course this is irrelevant and I'll be flamed for even bringing up a world that isn't based societies' standards.

I'll list the blame and where it should go:

The Husband: He is charged for addiction, which sprouts neglection, which sprouts in its most basic effect will push others that are not with you against you.

The Wife: She is charged with lack of interaction, idealized "TV therapy" (a sane aspect seems ridiculous), and supporting her husband's addiction by purchasing and funding his addiction.

The Video Game: This object is being charged of existing, corrupting millions by crippling the husband from his socially welcoming ideals, and profiting off this "sick" behavior.

For lack of better words, what does this even matter? If all of these ideas and objects exist, they should be put to use. I mean, thats what they are there for. Profit is a damn good idea, and its implemented EVERY day with some "social corrupt" concept, even though nearly all of these nouns bring people together with common ground.

Is that enough psycho babble for now? I could go on if you'd like. :2cents:

After reading about 80 posts I got tired so I am just gonna comment from what I have read so far...

1) LoL@marragesdestroyedbyMMOs. Seriously, the guy may have had addicition problems, but if he was willing to spend his time on a MMO instead of with his wife (WoW is way less addicting than FFXI imo too) then there was some other problem. I've been addicted to FFXI, and everytime I got a gf while playing I cut time out to spend some with my gf. Hell I cut time in the days in nights for a summer fling so that I could actually spend time with them.

2) Everyone who says mentioning sex is a moron. Sex is a powerful emotion and act, and if you say not than you probably have never had a good lay. Look in poety, writing, and social focus. You will see a huge amount of sex filling everything. It is in our minds through breeding, just like the need to eat. Sex certainly make a difference in relationships. Some can go without having sex routinely, this is true, but that is because they have other things bonding them together. Things that you could throw out and completely ignore if you two were good lovers for one another.

3) Playing video games is the same as watching TV. My parents always pick on me saying I spend too much time in front of the computer, and I just say they spend too much time in front of the TV. They seem to think its different cause they are together watching the TV and talk or something. I don't get it... I talk to people online and my gf if she is around hanging out. Which brings me to my last point...

4) You can sit in front of the computer and play an MMO and still spend time with your loved ones. I mean can you speak while playing a game? Well yeah... Maybe you can't interact physically while doing so, but you don't need to touch eachother every waking minute of your life either.
