From Mage to Meele: some advice please^^

thank you all for your advice^^ ive decided to start with warr and get ii to lvl 15 then depending on my mood by then go either drk or ninja. I dont want pld just yet because I dont want to be responsoble for a mages death. Althoguh a mage has more responsobilities than a meele in my opinion.
 
pld would be a good for a mage type...it would help u realize the work that goes into hate and would also help u know your limits on nuking/healing etc.
but for drk and nin, you want to lvl war first

Two things. First, you probably will be tanking, at least through your 20s, definitely in the dunes (of course, in the dunes, depending on how shitty the party is, any melee job might get asked to tank...). At these levels you actually are a viable tank as WAR without blink. So you might be responsible for mage death anyway. :twisted:

Second, I wouldn't necessarily say that mages have more responsibilites than melees. Although if you're a lazy player, it's easier to get away with just hitting attack and whack away at the mob without paying attention without your party noticing than if you're, say, a WHM and all of a sudden go AFK or fall asleep or whatever.

I started game with Whm, then came Bard...they are both at 75. I always had a desire to be a Monk, cause they have the sexiest moves in the game :P My monk is now 66 ..and I will never go back to mage job. Beating stuff down is just to much fun.
 
I like to dabble in many of the jobs and I usually make my decision by lv12ish. I say its good to play a little with other job classes. And sometimes it can be healthy. The beauty of this game is that you are not restricted to playing one job. Sure some races are built better for certain jobs, but there is equipment to make up for it. As a farmer I've always liked the idea of being a high enough mage class since you don't need to carry around ammo for pulling purposes, or like the blms in giddeus that start their train of yags and then -ga nuke them. And what better means of free transport than teleporting and warps!!?? But as far as going from a mage to melee, I think it is good to know how each works. Gives you a better understanding of things when they get tight. I've been in many parties where the blm gets pissed at the tank because the tank couldn't hold the hate and the blm died. Maybe if the mage wasn't chain casting nukes, the tank wouldn't have had the problem. Or I love it when you have an insane puller and they continue pulling when the whm is out of mp or low enough that halfway through the fight the whm is out. Key to good party is to know how each other works.

Also if you want to try you luck at a melee job, hell level BST :D, after lv10 you can sub whm for your healing and solo it. But it is fun to play different roles in the party. I loved giving up being a tank. No time to really try anything new just voke, and keep hitting! Sam and rng allow me to concentrate on other things, and I like sam because I like being able to figure out what SC will work the best. Good luck and I hope you enjoy what you learn.
 
Only exp I have is with a THF.. and my advice bro, is to steal whatever you can, as fast as you can, then fake a family emergency and go play some starcraft or diablo 2
