heres my 1 cent. of course all you sane ppl can agree it goes RL>>FFXI, but again, it doesnt mean you have to be a jerk w/o any common courtesy. what some ppl dont realize is, its ok to say "no, sry, cant go to the movies right now, have prior obligations". not going to the movies or a cookout will also not kill you, you told ppl in game prior to the invite for that cookout that you would do exp/god/whatever. and another thing ppl dont realize is, that while all u can see is a character, there are actual ppl behind them. by blowing off your HNM ppl who asked you BEFORE your bbq ppl, your still letting someone down, and i think your bbq ppl would understand if you told them that you had already promised that time block to someone else, because yes, it is someone else, not just a gaphic. then again if its somthing you aranged weeks ago, or your turtle was eaten by a rabid mongoose, its ok to say "sry gtg, emergancy" but theres not alot of cases where you have to be offline in 30 seconds

P.S.

a few examples:

you put your name in for a scheduled <insert stupid mission here> on a set date. On said date you log-in and gather for said mission. Friends call you up and say hey, we were gonna go see <insert kool movie here>, we got you a ticket. (say the movie starts in 30 min)

lol twil, i hope that wasnt a real situation, if it was you got some dumbass friends, no offense, but who BUYS the ticket for someone and they dont even know if they can come, not to mention a half hour b4 it starts

Clearly your RL should take precedence over any game. (I mean c'mon... RL has alcohol.) But you have to agree that the game isn't second place in all things:

Cost. FFXI costs what like 13 dollars a month? $14 with a mule? Thats nothing. Real Life has bills, rent, insurance, car payments, stupid birthday gifts, etc...

Stress reliever. Sometimes you just want to kill stuff. Nothing fixes a bad mood better than blowing shit up with a BLM. You just can't get that kind of release IRL. Well you can, but then you know... jail...

And finally, sometimes your friends just suck. Sometimes hanging out with them seems like a chore worse than mowing a hundred lawns. You'll never have to listen to your tank complaining about how he hates his mom or your DD bragging about how hot his girlfriend is. If they start yammering... /blist. I can't even count how many times i've wished for that feature IRL.

But even with all this, RL>FFXI. Except when I'm working. Or with my family. Other than that, I totally agree.

Game never ever ever ever > RL. Period. For anyone who thinks in the slightest that the game should EVER be more important...Do me a favor and tell your friends(Who don't play this game) this excuse for turning down an invite out next time they invite you out on a Saturday night...

"Hey, well I'd love to go, but I need to kill Kirin with my linkshell. Maybe next week?"

Now if you can tell your friends that without feeling stupid, or without them going, 'what the fuck?', then ok maybe you need to sit and think awhile. Someone said it may not kill you to skip that movie for the game, but honestly, is another Rare/Ex item really gonna be worth losing a great night out that could lead to all kinds of good times? IMO, it never is. Unless the person inviting you out is one of those people you honestly don't like to hang out with very much...But that's a whole different story.

K, Here's the thing. There are a LOT of ppl that just go to work, and the come home and log on. Whining and bitching bout the stuff they need or dont have. Some Linkshell's REQUIRE one to have 20 hours a week!

There are those who been playing since this game came out.... IN JAPAN and still play for whatever reason. I like this game a lot and I have over 250 days! >_>;; (I like to leave it temp'd log'd)

Thats why i ask'd this~ Everyone that stay up that few extra hours losing that much more sleep for work the next morning. I even heard a few rumors that some ppl call'd in sick or cut class to get home eariy. just for this game~

I used to be one of those every free second gamers, started just after NA PC release and didn't spend much time doing anything else... then this happened

Shortly afterwards i snapped outa the fog that MMO's induce on large to the masses. I figure most people who get totally balls out for this game and kinda let real life slip just need a good reminder of what's important sometimes

i know this one guy (been pretty good friends for a number of years now) that has gotten himself COMPLETELY sucked into this game, like its leeching the life right out of him. He quit his job, lives in his parents basement and plays FFXI all mother fucking day long.
One of our friends got into some pretty BAD situation, and needed to move EVERYTHING out of his house within a 30min to 1hr timeframe. He calls me up stressed out as all hell, i log out (was exp'ing BLM at the time) and go to his house to help asap (what the fuck are friends for right?). We call up our buddy, and he tells us he's "busy" and cant help. come to find out, he was campin for his Joyeuse (for his 2nd or 3rd lvl 70+ job).......
so yes, there are people out there that put FFXI>RL, not just to call in sick to work, or go to class late, but people that drop EVERYTHING in life to put more time into this hell-hole of a game.

its a sad world we live in.
