glitch = GM = BAD IDEA

HEY NAV!....and...dammit nav!...that did burst my bubble *cries*. Certain things in the game suprise me with the game environment, but i always thought some lvl 18 out there looked up at the airship departing jeuno for kazham, i was on, and said....one day ill ride one too. *sighs*

What I think would be a nice effect (But impossible to recreate) would if people in... Gustaberg, for example... could see the people on the Airship from Bastok to Jeuno.

Cooler still... if we all could actuall jump off and fall into the Bastore Sea... and people in other areas could see us.

I just want to post my 2 cents :):

I mean come on, are we not called adventurers in the game. We explore Vanadiel even the glitches. Its fun to find them. I mean like the underwater thing, I would have loved to be there also. That GM was in the wrong in my opinion. Also the party leader sounded pretty rude. I remember I used to play with gameshark on video games and go into areas where I was not meant to be. All gamers do this when they get a chance. You were not doing anything harmfull to anyone or gaining an advantage in the game. You were just courious and that GM wants to be a jerk about it. Total B.S. in my book. There is a time to enforce rules and there is a time overlook them. All he should have said was: In the future can you please not go into this area cause you run a chance of damageing your character. Then ask you what you did then go fix the problem. Threatening to delette your accounts was totally not nessariy. We are paying costumers. Square sounds like they are getting too BIG HEADED for me. Sorry I just hate authority figures.

My other 2 cents.

About the airships; you can see the airships if your in an area right outside of where the ships dock. Everytime a ship is about to dock or leaves it passes above a certain area. Granted, its just a visual on a timer, but then the ships are on timers too, the same timers; so that they match. You can always know that a ship has docked if you see it going to the respected city.

Example, In West Ronfaure you can always see the airship when its coming in/leaving, good spot to see this is in the clearing near the west/east ronfaure zone. Im pretty sure you also get an even better visual in east ronfaure close to the zone. I dont spend enough time in sarutabaruta or gustaburg to really pay attention to where the ships come and go but I can garantee you can see the ships coming and going.

So in a sense, it is like staring up at an airship that someone is on.

And David, hehe.. well.. mmo's are quite different than a console video game. You use game shark/action replay to go to an area or something that your not suppose to be in on a console game and you run the risk of damaging your save file or causing a game crash. Thats no biggie because the only one playing it is you.

It's a bit more serious in a game that thousands play, when you go into an area your not suppose to be in or normally wouldnt be able to access. There's a chance that yeah sure, maybe only your character data will be messed up, but theres also an even bigger chance that you may stumble into something that causes a server crash. Then you've now accidentally inconvienced thousands of people, who may or may not get very upset from the sudden game interruption. SE then has to deal with all the "WTF HAPPENED?" requests and find the person who caused the crash or whatever, talk/deal with them. If it was an accident they may give you a slap on the wrist and a warning, but there are those out there that would do these types of things on purpose and those are the kind that like to ruin everyone elses fun. They get banned for being retarded. And then SE has to fix the mess that person might have opened up.

what id like to see is a GM pop up in Oztroja and nail all the
bot campers on the high price drops.

It is, in my opinion, absolutley ridiculous for SE to intervene on a little
"exploration"

where you harming the game in any way by finding this little hideaway?
answer: no

its like me getting a ticket for noise pollution on my Civic w/4" muffler
while my neighbors window-shattering Harley deafens neighborhood
children @ 7:00A.M. and he wails off unbothered.

Woah, you can jump of the airship to Kazham? What's it like? Do you fall to the ground? Are you in an area you were flying over or just airship scenery stuff?

Not to shatter your illusions, but Airships and the Ferry don't actually move, they are static. The world moves to create the illusion of movement.
I know that, I just thought that since you would then be on a moving 3D object (the world scenery) you would move along with it, or you would be down there while it rockets by, lol

I know that you don't actually fly through the actual areas you seem to be flying over, that would mean that all of the FFXI world is one 3D "level", which would take way too much memory.

Plus, the proportions are probably off down on the ground, the crag of mea is probably only about three times the size of a person. It would be too much memory to make it to scale. The airship area is probably only about the size of a city area, or smaller.

Ouch, I did not know that it caused a server crash  If I find myself in this type of thing I will try to get out. Information always helps people out. Thanks Ecks.

I don't mean to sound like I know everything. I most certainly do not. Heh.. I'm not saying that something like that WILL cause a server crash, but based off of what I can tell you from my previous mmo experiences, and by having friends that play lots of mmo's. I can safely say that people who find a glitch if by accident should notify a GM. If that glitch is found on purpose from someone seeking to exploit it, then someone should call a GM on that person. Either case, it is a posibility that something may trigger a server crash due to the fact that your in a glitch or using a glitch, not that it will, just that it may.

A server crash or game crash is a worst case scenario, and would take a good while to fix. There's equally a chance that nothing at all will happen, or that whomever is using the glitch could gain positive or negative abilities to their character data.. thats pretty much what they mean when they say "Damaged Character Data". Usually and sadly, when someones character data has been damaged they (in this case GM's) will resort to character deletion if they cannot fix the "damaged" effects or .. sometimes if they are just plain lazy. But if the effects are minimal enough to fix, then you get fixed, lucky you, just better pray it was an accident.

To be honest I dont know how it works in FFXI as each and every MMO deals with things differently, I haven't heard any stories about characters abusing glitches or whatever yet, but I'm sure in time there will be someone if there hasnt been someone already. There always is that someone or group of people, unfortunately.

On the contrary. Dot Hack actually informed me, albeit in minor ways, as to what can/may happen in an mmo world. After all, the game's basis is that your essentially an outside player of an MMO that has internal problems. Kite didn't go looking for expliots, he actually did the opposite. Though his character had an illegal ability, it wasnt like he gained it on purpose, and since he couldnt get rid of it he did the best thing he could. He used it to rid the game of its viruses. The story and game design, however fictional, are loosely based on how real mmo fantasy games work.

Even though im definately now well off the original topic of this thread, I would say I absolutely loved .Hack 1-3( havent beaten 3 yet, due to FFXI). The story is wonderful, and the idea of the game is very original. It just had one boring flaw, huge dungeons that take you forever to fully explore them. Granted, something like this in a real mmo would be worth it because they would have made the experience better, but in an RPG, no thank you. I highly suggest watching .Hack//Sign as well, the kiddies won't understand it, but if you have a brain, like anime and video games, you should understand it.

/em only played dot.hack 1 because i got into dot.hack a wholoe lotlatter than it came out, FFXI came out right after i finished dot.hack 1, so, no continuation for me, and i couldnt if i wanted to, someone messed my memory card up and now my PS2 dosnt relize its in the slot.

Ewww, dot hack was terrible, the anime was slow and completly boring, and the games were not worth 50 dollars each. They dragged out 1 long mediocre game into 4 crappy games. I got part 1, beat it, got part 2, and could not just keep doing it. The mindnumbing dungeon crawling was too much, the story just couldn't keep me interested enough to make up for the shitty gameplay.

And the dot hack Sign anime was just like the game, incredibly boring, it starts off good, but then, jebus, these people have so many emotional dilemas inside a video game. Hell, it's not even a game, they barely do anything close to that, just talk about current issues and etc. I hated the girl who was the leader of the Knights, I forgot her name, I was glad Ginka took leadership later. Only character good in that anime was Sora, cause he actually played it like a video game, even though he was a PKer, atleast he had fun and didn't bring all this emotional stress to a game.

Sorry about that, just that both the games and the anime seemed really good, I had huge hopes for them, and they were complete crap, no way was I gonna fork over $200 dollars for something that should have been one game.

O.O..

I don't know where you bought your games but they only sell for at most 39.99. I think I bought part 3 for 29.99 as Im pretty sure the rest sell for about 29.99, atleast they do now.

Anywho to each his own. I enjoyed the anime, and I loved the story in the game, but as I mentioned in my post.. Yes, the dungeon crawling in the game is the big downside. However, I still plan to push through that and finish the story. As for the anime I bought all of it *shrugs*. I highly enjoyed it. Sure there are a lot of moments where people talk, but damn.. thats part of the story, to envolve you in the plot and get to understand the people behind the characters, etc.

At anyrate I'm not saying "I'm right, your wrong." because we're all entitled to our own opinions. I for one enjoyed the "Dot Hack Experience", where as you obviously didn't. We all have different tastes. :)

Luckily, I downloaded the entire series of Dot hack Sign and Dusk, but the reason I paid 50 was because I picked up both games on their respective release dates, after part 1, I was interested in seeing what would happen, but then I just couldn't get through part 2. I decided to read the story through boards and such, so I got a good amount of it, it wasn't a bad idea, but I feel the execution wasn't up to my expectations. Yeah, your right, its just a matter of opinion, but I would say if anyone plans on getting it, give it a rental first, looks can be decieving.
