Like I said, that isn't a gameplay problem and therefore isn't really important. The biggest gameplay problem I've encountered so far is the computer-controlled squad members. If there is anything on the road, they will stop driving and just sit in the car. Anything, be it a blown up warthog or a tiny piece of scrap from a wraith. It is ultra annoying having to get off the Turret every two minutes because they are incapable of simply driving over something.
You're better off doin' the driving. I never even bothered to use the weapon on the back of the Warthogs because you'd get mauled up, quickly. I was playin' through on Heroic mode though so could just guns-a-blazin' the stuff. What I did was drive and shield myself from fire (drive up to a wall for yourself but leave the gunner out to dry, he probably wont die) and let the AI take care of the baddies, if need be, or just drive past everything.
That was more-so toward the end of the game though. How I handled earlier stuff is below.
On the level where you're in the park, I think the first time you're able to drive the Warthog, and your team insist you get on the turret, I never even bothered gettin' in it. I used the building in the middle. On the top of the building their are some Sniper Rifles, to take out the normal enemies and some rockets for the Wraths. So there is no need to even set foot in the warthog to begin with unless you just want to use it to increase your speed to the building. After I cleared the main area I drove past everything else to the level exit. You could hang onto a few rockets and just jump out of the Warthog and blow up the Wraths along the way, if you're goin' for the achievement though.
