LOS ANGELES — Don LaFontaine, the man behind the chilling voice in various movie trailers and commercials, died Monday, his agent said. He was 68.

LaFontaine died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles of complications from a collapsed lung, ETOnline reported. The official cause of death, however, was not immediately released.

LaFontaine's vocal talents have appeared in over 5,000 movie trailers and nearly 350,000 commercials. He is most famous for the introductory line, "In a world..."

LaFontaine most recently appeared in a Geico Insurance commercial where he was referred to as "that announcer guy."

He is survived by his wife, singer/actress Nita Whitaker, and three children Christine, Skye and Elyse.

:(

In a world where we have no totally awesome movie announcer...trailers will not be made.

Wow, I actually feel really bad about him being dead. I mean more then the usual "oh thats too bad" type feeling i mean actually bad to know that he's gone.

On a side note, I wonder if all those other voiceover guys will be at his funeral giving their own little thoughts on his passing. It would be very unintentionally funny.

Mr. Voice is silenced forever :( I loved his Geico commercial.

No more voice D: I guess now we have to rely on chrome letters flying at the screen to cause excitement...

That sucks. His voice in the trailers were sometimes the best parts of the movies he was announcing.

Now the only amazing voice we have left is Morgan Freeman. :( Once he's gone, it's all over. Nothing else can ever be narrated or read aloud again.

Sounds like an open market, then. James Earl Jones still has a few good years left in him, also.

James Earl Jones and Morgan Freeman as Statler and Waldorf in a new Muppet Movie.

the above was heavy sarcasm, lol

Morgan Freeman and JEJ (NOT Jaggedy Eared Jack >.<) would be the best motivational speakers ever. Or counselors, especially if you wanted your children to understand death...have Mufassa tell em.

We also still have Peter Cullen.

IDK, isnt Peter Cullen older then DFL? If so, I think Optimus is living on borrowed time then. Common Transformers 2! This time we get to see more of them fighting and less of them stepping on some guys lawn furniature.

Brian Blessed.

Patrick Stewart.

etc.
