Microsoft bans 1 million Xbox Live players

When nerds can't hold in their nerdiness. When the craving for geekdom becomes too much...

there are not a million banned, not even 600,000. MS themselves said the numbers being rumored are pure exaggeration.
Playing before a game is released doesnt flag you for piracy, but it will get attention paid to you to see if your drive is jittering correctly, if its not, its suspicious and they then flag you, once your flagged you are held in limbo until they throw the switch, then one by one people are banned all at once.

My other xbox was hit with this, they even banned HARDER this time. They ban the console, not the account. And this time, they made it so you cant install to hard drive, use media center and some other functions while playing offline on the modded system.
You cant even play a game offline, get achievements, then put your hard drive in a non banned system and update your profile, it will corrupt your tag and your game save for that game, youll then have to recover your gamertag and lose any achievements earned.
But, The one single man that has been battling MS during every ban, and finds a solution after every single ban wave, has already within days responded that he now has all the facts and was waiting for another ban wave to test something, and now has discovered the way to mod, and never get banned again.
So, its not over. Its just a temporary inconvenience.

They get what they deserve. Not that I'm all up in arms about piracy or anything, I just like it when people shoot themselves in the foot. For instance, this "one single man" thinks he's all smart and savvy but he's doin' nothing but shortening the amount of time a ban turns into jail time. For my amusement though, please go ahead and run out the options for companies. Go ahead and make the banning process so expensive and worthless that it makes just as much sense to call in the F.B.I.

Ultimately if the mod community majority didn't have a childs "look what I can do" mentality they'd have been better off.

With that bein' said, I wish I had a modded console. $60 games are a bit ridiculous and it is about the only way we can stick it to the companies. However, I'd never take it online. Not only is that stupid, but it's just flat out wrong to do some of the things they can do to people who are being legit.

If I can fix a RROD you can totally figure out how, there's so much literature out there.. not that I'm encouraging you to mod, I'm just sayin'... :) Ah who'm I kidding paying for stuff sucks!

Honestly, if they could catch c4eva, they woulda did it back during the xbox 1 days. But thats what xbins is for, he doesnt directly put anything online himself so nothing comes back to him, Just use the anonymous xbins server and every mod known is able to be found there. Its like the xbox underground.

On a personal note, i have been playing legit entirely on this xbox and it still got banned. I buy a game, i instantly, first thing, burn a copy because my kids destroy EVERYTHING!!! put the original disc in a cd booklet and hide it on the top shelf of the closet.
Put the copy in the case and put it on the shelf.
That way my original is always protected, and if the copy gets broke, i can just make another. I have the right to have one backup of anything i own, and currently, thats all i have. Although a small handful since i usually gamefly.

No online play, yet still banned. Like many people, It doesnt matter if you go online AT ALL, if you even have a cord connect to watch movies via stream and never connect to live, its too late, they already know. They read the information stored in the system that detects what you have done offline. Its even believed they can detect when the dvd drive is not connected to the sata but still is powered on.
They just wont be able to detect that stuff soon.

lol yea i got hit with this to i just shrugged at the minor delay and bought a new xbox. i buy a lot of my games still but ill d/l ones that im not sure about play it and test it out if its crap ill junk it. if its a good game i go buy it. i gues you can call that lazy renting since the dvd to burn it cost like $1. ever year modders get better and better, which is partly the reason i gave up on being a game designer. you cant make money if your getting ripped off lol.

just a note to add to this, there is a class action lawsuit being filed, not because of the ban, but because of the ban crippling the hard drive and the options of the system, they apparently have the right to ban from live, but they dont have the right to disable hardware features.
They also banned some legit people who were not modded or doing anything wrong and used the "we reserve the right to ban people from our service for any reason, even accidental" line.
They even decided to make a statement about it, which honestly means theres something more to it, otherwise they would have just ignored it. They dont want it to go to court, if they lose...they have to unban everyone most likely.

There is also a hack already that allows you to un corrupt your profile without restoring it, so that hasnt stopped anything, theres a Nand hack as well that allows you to remove the hdd install block. so basically for some, the ban is only from live...again!
oh...theres a hack to unban yourself too, its a pain in the ass to do and most people will never do it, not even worth the time to me since i can just wait for the unbannable firmware to come out and get another second hand box.

if they banned that many players how come there are still so many cheaters still playing!!! MSoft are lazy they dont seem to care about the glitchers and mods! ive put in more complaints for cheating in the last 2 weeks than i have since i started playing. To all the noob cheaters out there u suck and i hope you get a lifetime ban, why cheat?, the win means nothing if you cheat, your stats mean nothing if you cheat, you prove you own ineptitude by cheating. Yes you win but at what cost!!! Carma Carma Carma It will come back on you one way or another.

There really aren't that many cheaters playing. Ya know, some people are actually just good at games.
My team of friends have been accused of cheating or using "Aim bots" almostly nightly now, but we never use anything, we just play well as a team and we rarely ever lose, our stats show it. I mean, if we had cheated we would have been banned or suspended at some point, yet for all these years, here we sit.

You issue may be one of two things, The first being that your playing people better than you at a game, they are dominating you because they know more about the mechanics and best spots and tactics in the game, and because for you that just seems to be absolutely impossible, you immediately jump to them being a cheater/glitcher.

Second, your playing a game that is known to be glitchy, un supported by the developers, and blaming MS for it, Whatever game it may be, it is the developers jobs to patch and fix these things, not MS. It is not their job to ban them unless they are reported endlessly for cheating, and their account reflects it. They will be suspended at first in that case, usually learning their lesson and never doing it again, and if they do, it can lead to a ban. But usually will never get that far.
If you report them for cheating, and MS checks up on it and it shows they have done nothing illegal on their account, its just that they were too good for you and nothing will be done, this is 90% of the probability.

Hacking did at one point that a huge leap forward in xbox land when the JTAG was introduced, the ability to mod and homebrew the hell out of the system through the hyper visor exploit, but this was only if you had an xbox with a specific dashboard version, if you upgrade from that version, you cannot go back and the system cannot be Jtagged, so the amount of Jtags in existence is pretty damn small, and the fact that MS has banned those consoles from live as well makes it even harder to run into one.
Those consoles were the reason for the "10th prestige" lobbies and 95% of the hacks in MW2. The fact that those consoles are the ones prone to RROD will make them even more rare in the long run.

btw, necro.
