MLB Playoffs 2009

Its disappointing and frustrating as a fan (even though Im not a huge baseball fan, I still find it upsetting as a big sports fan in general). I find it ridiculous that Selig continues to use his incredibly flawed logic: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs/2009/news/story?id=4606976

I mean seriously..."the human element?" What the fuck are you talking about, like that is somehow a plus when it comes to officiating.

I agree with baseball needing to keep a human element but that should be umps behind the plate. Thats keeping humanity in the calls enough. They obviously cant handle the calls on the field and thats with extra assistance.

I can understand his concern about delaying the game to review a call, but I think a good way to handle it would be how one of the commentators mentioned a back in the ALCS.

Instead of the umps heading off the field to check the tape, have one official up in the booth that can check the replay right there if a call is challenged, then just add stipulations as to which calls can be challenged so there's not a delay on every called strike.

This way, the umps are still there to call the routine stuff (foul/fair, safe/out, etc.) and when there are calls like on the Night of the Swish, they can have the booth-ump check it out and be on with the game in 30 seconds.

It just makes sense... I mean there is absolutley no way an ump can see the ball being caught and the runners foot at the same time.

After one of the most interesting pieces of base running I've ever seen, compliments of Mr. Damon, the Yanks now lead the series 3-1.

Now... No names... There are people on this forum that would say Damon only went to third because no one was there and it was routine at that moment to head to an unoccupied base.

Truth is it was brilliant of Damon at that moment. He had less then a second to react lol. You could say his at bat and base running was the turning point of the game.

I would give it to Neo-Arod but chances are he would have struck out on a slider if no one was at third. Lidge was terrified of throwing that slider in the dirt.

EDIT: I wanted to add that Fox is terrible at hosting/calling these games. They didnt even let you know Damon was stealing until he had already started his slide into second. Then as he is on the way to third they kinda just said something casual. It was a huge play in the game and such a WTF moment but it was kinda just mumbled about lol.

EDIT2! There is a video here from the MLB site. It plays the fox call, the Yankees radio call and Phillies radio call.. The radio guys did it right lol... Why so dull fox?

See, now if Fox had called it like that I would have had a clue why he got up and ran. There was no mention of the shift or that third was open, so all I saw was Damon slide into second, stand up, and take third. All the while I'm sitting there going, "WTF, is he trying to pull a fast one?"

I agree lol. On Damons way to third i figured Philly had the shift on Teixeira, which everyone does when he bats lefty. But i was still kinda like WTF. For a second it looked like Damon thought the ball went into center field... The radio guys called everything perfect. Fox is so sleepy. Add to that they sounded kinda depressed.

Also Ravic i know its the broken record thing going on so i didnt mention it during the game. Howard never touched home and the ump called him safe right away lol.

I had actually forgotten about that until you just mentioned it. I was going to say that one of the most unusual things about this game was the LACK of blown calls. Oh well, at least they kept it to one this time.

Actually ass ( I know you are a Yankee homer and your team is about to win the WS, so I expect the biased opinion), THAT was a very heads up play. Many Kudos to Damon on that play.

The world, karma and fate all seem to be conspiring to bring broader replay to baseball. Everything is magnified. Arod's homer, bad ball/strike calls (I know ball/strike replays will probably never happen), and Howard obviously missing the plate.

As much as it's possible for a Yankee to be underated, I think Matsui is a VERY underated player.

Meh, it's national media vs radio guys that are with a team all year. The radio guys have more of connection with the team. I bet if the Cardinals were in the WS, Buck might sound like he actually wasn't still thinking about the Giants/Eagles game. I love watching games on different networks. Is it Susan Waldman that does some Yankee games with Kay? People make fun of her, but at least she has Passion. I think the Indian announcers are the only ones that I really can't stand...

Balls and strikes i always want a human there calling them. As far as plays in the field go, i would like some replay assistance of some kind during the playoffs. I understand during the regular season it would be too much.

Now on the topic of you making sense... Matsui is way underated. He is one of the better DHs in the league and just gets the whatever pass. On that same note either Pedroia is WAY overated or Cano is WAY underated. A ton of Yankee fans dont appreciate the jewels we have.. Oh well.

Pedroia is WAY overated. He won an MVP almost by default. If he had the same season this year, he probably wouldn't even be in the discussion for the award.

Now i dont bitch much when it comes to balls and strikes... This time i must continue my claim. The year of the ump continues. Arod was just called out on strikes with the bases loaded on a pitch that passed through the left handed batters box... The replay from above actually shows it pass through the other batters box... Wtf lmao.

World F*ing Champions! :)

BALLGAME OVER!
WORLD SERIES OVER!
YANKEES WIN!!!
THEEEEEEE YANKEEES WIN!!!!

Maybe the Phillies should have been throwing at Matsui all series long instead of Tex and A-rod.
