More E-Peen Dots?

Wait he has disabled reputation but can still rate down? What the hell kind of BS is that they can rate us, but we can't rate them?
Now there's an even bigger reason to remove that "disable reputation" bullshit. They can participate; even if they don't really effect anything, but they still get to hide behind their black dots? Cmdr should definitely turn that crap back off.

Heh, I was thinking about bringing that up to attention when I noticed that disabled rep people could still use the system. The gray dot just makes it not look as pretty lol But hey, now I have a goal in red dotting someone before they even get approved, even if I can't see it.

You can still rate black dots up/down, it just doesn't show up to anyone but them. Which, is obviously pointless...

Even more reason to get rid of the disabling option. If most people are like me, which I think they are, sure we will rate people up. When it comes to rating down, I don't normally do it unless someone is purposefully being a dick, and if you notice most of this guy's posts, he is being a douche in all of them. People try to say the system is just a rate up fuckfest, which may be true, but for the most part, rate downs is the only thing people should worry about.

To people who hate the rate up system. GET THE FUCK OFF THE INTERNET IF YOU DON'T LIKE PEOPLE RATING DOWN YOUR EGO. GTFO with this Black dot bullshit. It's more pointless then the pointless rate up system you dumb fucks seem to hate.

In accordance to the black dotted and red dotted people not being able to post in the flameboard, here is my opinion for what it's worth. They should be able to post replies, just not be able to start threads until they get more reputation. I think its a bad idea for people new to the boards to try to start drama when they don't have a feel for the community yet.

I think if you have reputation disabed that all of your reps should be grey dots, even if you actually have the rep to give green/red dots. You can leave comments, but you shouldn't be able to influence anyone's score. Of course it's a moot point since they could just enable rep, do their rateup/downs, then disable it again a minute later. Completely disabling it wouldn't work for the same reason above unless you put some kind of timer on it (you can't rate people until you've had your own rep showing for a day/week/whatever) at which point you're just asking the admins to code way too much crap for such an insignificant thing.

Which is why my original two suggestions were perfectly reasonable. Turn it back on all the way, or turn it off all the way.
This in-between crap is ridiculous, and people with disabled rep being able to use the system is even worse.

what did anyone think of my suggestion on the previous page?

Also, I agree with Rappa's point; it doesn't make too much of a big deal if I can't give someone points or not i rarely rep someone down or give someone rep in the first place.

imo, if you want it to be out in the open about it, bring the thanks button back and add a negative feature as well, or you could implement them both and let any comments negative or positive be viewed by anyone.

In light of this stuff, and as I hadn't seen that behavior prior to Lanien's ratedown BS, I'll agree that black-dotters should have zero effect on reputation, but should still be able to leave comments.

Idea: Make those who choose to disable their Reputation unable to re-enable it after, say, a few months? It'd be like Divine Might, only more hardcore.
