I don't know how many of you are readers, but I'm trying to find some literature to take up my time. Today I picked up a few Vonnegut novels and some other random "classics" I've been meaning to get to, and I saw this by the cashier. It caught my attention, and even just a glance at the back page synopsis was enough to convince me it was a worthwhile purchase.

Short summary: The world has just survived a zombie apocalypse. The author is a journalist who has collected stories from survivors all over the globe. The accounts are all first hand, ranging from the inner political actions leading up to the event, to personal encounters that convinced society of the unbelievable, yet imminent threat. It takes place in the near future, and the author includes explanations of future historical events.

It's an addicting read, and very well written. It seems like the type of book that might interest more than a few people around here, so I figured that I would spread the word.

You'll find World War Z is pretty popular on this board. There's a thread for the upcoming movie somewhere. J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5, Changeling) wrote the screenplay.

If you like audiobooks, they did a great job adapting it. Not unabridged, unfortunately, but they got some real talent to read the different stories. The Alan Alda section was really well done, reading the Arthur Sinclair section about job retraining and all that when they're trying to recover.

Its a great Book about the personal stories about the zombie apocalypse and how the survivors took the world back. I thought it was a great book and would recommend this book to anyone looking for a fun read.

Ah, awesome Hali. The cover proclaims it as a NYTimes Bestseller, should've guessed it had a decent following around here.

It really sucks you in, such an awesome read before I settle into some serious lit.

yea the book is great. If you want another interesting book, look up The Rising by Brian Keene. Its another Zombie book with some twists and what not.

I also recommend the Zombie Survival Guide by the same author.

You know...just in case...

I just discovered yesterday that the author of these books is Mel Brooks' son? That's friggin awesome if you ask me.

btw, moving this to multimedia items with a "Books" tag :D

I love that book, lol. And I'm cool, because I read it before you. BEFORE ANY OF YOU!

Seriously though, it's an interesting take on the zombie apocalypse.

For other zombie fiction, obviously the Survival Guide is good. I'd also recommend Patient Zero, by Jonathon Maberry. And not at all because I know him and he's a cool guy.

More because he's like a black belt in like two different martial arts and could probably beat the crap out of me if I didn't plug his book(s) occasionally.

I read this book, loved it <3

they're making a movie? God I hope they get it all right :D

Wow ill have to look this up next time im at barnes and noble.

Speaking of the zombie apocalypse, while you're at Barnes & Noble you should check out The Walking Dead series of comics. It makes a great companion piece of World War Z. I was happy to learn when I got back from vacation that Frank Darabont and AMC won the bidding war to turn the comic into a series.

The Walking Dead is great because Robert Kirkman does a tremendous job writing believable characters. If this book is anything like the comic I'm definetly checking it out.
