Well, you can see from the topic that I really love music, and this thread is here for us to discuss our favorite musicians/artists of all time. You can tell a lot about someone by their musical taste...

My Top 5---
5. The Rolling Stones - God love 'em, they made my kind of music. I own Forty Licks, which really does show the best of these legends. I suggest everyone listen to them, even if you aren't a huge rock fan. They really made me start loving music. Key Song - Wild Horses

4. The Who - Bad-ass guitar, the perfect amount of synthesizer, and lyrics that actually meant something. These guys rocked hard, and their music always makes me get up and pretend I'm Pete Townshend, breaking out the big riffs. ^^ Key Song - Baba O'Reilly (You may know it as Teenage Wasteland...)

3. Pink Floyd - As long as what I'm listening to was Floyd from after Sid Barret, I love it. In my honest opinion, Dark Side of the Moon was their best album, and I think it's another required listen for anyone who loves music. They had haunting music that always puts me in a good mood. Key Song - Time

2. The Beatles - Oh, how I love the Fab Four. I own a bunch of their albums, and I think The White Album is quite possibly the greatest album of all time. These guys made collections of songs on one album that demolished entire musical libraries of other artists. (By the way, my favorite Beatle was George Harrison ^^) Key Song - While My Guitar Gently Weeps

1. Led Zeppelin - Ahhh, yes, the pinnacle of music for me. Every album and every song was golden, from Stairway to Carouselambra. Their guitar, vocals, percussion and production value were all top-notch. I can't name a song I dislike, and I can't name an album I don't love. Key Song - Ten Years Gone (I know, Stairway to Heaven is Great, but listen to Ten Years Gone and you'll see why I chose it  )

Well, that was long-winded, but I love my musical discussions. This is all just my opinion. I have a lot of oter favorites, but these 5 always stick out as the best in my personal opinion. Hopefully some of you will respond and tell what you like. Or maybe you'll look into my bands....

Okay, hrmmm lets see if I can work out a top 5 without sounding like a mopey gloom cookie

In no particular order

1) VNV Nation - Future Pop at it's best, VNV Nation is just brilliant. A must hear for anyone who is a fan of electronic music. There's really no way I could state a specific disk as the catch all be all. But there's a whole lot of love in me for the Empire's disk as it's what introduced me to the band. Song?? Standing (Empires - 1999 Metropolis Records)

2) Skinny Puppy - Aside from the "psst! Nivek Ogre is from Calgary" local nod, I've been listening to Skinny Puppy for a decade now, and I've never lost interest in them. Skinny Puppy is just one of those timeless industrial bands . . . what more can I say?? A song?? hard to say with such a large body of work . . . Daddyuwarbush off The Greater Wrong of the Right (2004)

3) Midnight Oil - They broke up earlier this year and it's a shame, I had the privelege to see them live a couple years ago and damn . . . anyways, I grew up listening to Midnight Oil, but it wasn't until I got a little older that I gained a genuine interest in them. I'm just going to avoid chosing the "best" disk . . . song?? Truganani off Earth and Sun and Moon.

4) The Cure - The Cure is one of the best bands ever. (PERIOD!) If you disagree . . . kill yourself  Song?? Hell pick one!

5) My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult - Sleaze, Glam . . . MLWTTKK IS Sex Drugs and Rock and Roll . . . I mean sure the who pill crazed bit is a bit of a turn off, but with out it MLWTTKK would just be another electro band . . . Fact of the matter is . . . Dirty Sleazy music is what the Thrill Kill Kult does . . . and they do a damn fine job of it. The Disk?? 13 Above the Night Song?? anything off that disk is amazing.

Damn . . . coming up with just five bands was tough . . . I mean I could have listed another 5 - 10 easy . . . here's some name dropping to end it off . . .
Covenant (not the death metal one :? ), Wolfsheim, Nine Inch Nails, Tweaker, Low Fidelity All Stars, Massive Attack, Stromkern. . . I'll stop

Wow, I've never heard anything by any of those bands. I think I'm stuck in Classic Rockville. I might go and look some of that up now, though. I'm always up for new music. I mean, I did influence myself to start listening to Japanese techno every now and then....

By the way, a few of my other favorites besides the five -
Bruce Springsteen, The Cars, Lynyrd Skynyrd (the old stuff), Van Halen, The Eagles, Barenaked Ladies, John Mellancamp, The Temptations, Boston.

I like the music that I like.
ie: Tool, NIN, Radiohead, Dredg, Muse, The Mars Volta, RATM, you get the idea.
I'm not too terribly fond of the music I don't like.
ie: Nickelback(trash), Anything played on a top 40 station.

Ok, the Top 5 in no particular Order

Led Zep. (Stairway to Heaven, what more can I say ?)
Iron Maiden (Maiden, Maiden, Maiden !)
Blind Guardian (Weee, DnD Nerds)
Bond (Soo Pretty, but yet Sooo Good)
assorted String Quartets (my Favorite is Adagio, but there aren't too many Pieces for Strings that I don't like)

No Particular Order

U2 (last album was monkey balls but love Zooropa)
Muse (Get to see them on the 25th *GLEE*)
Gackt (J-rock king, and super cute to boot  )
Yoko Kanno (need I say more?)
Danny Elfman (Eddy Scissorhands had an awesome soundtrack  )

The Cure, David Bowie, Prince, VAST, New Order, Goldfrapp, Telepopmusik, Mathew Good, Ours, The Killers, Raidohead (Pre Kid A), Luna Sea, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Deltron The Funky Homosapian....jesus I could go on for days :D

I go through phases...

Right now I am listening to Tenacious D, Counting Crows, Elvis Costello, Aerosmith, Cake and Ani Difraco.

*Any Show Tunes...of course ;) Rocky Horror, Diamond Dead, Rent

Top 5 bands i'm listening to right now:

5. Nekromantix: Not really into Psychobilly but these guys rule. Misfits meet Elvis.

4. David Bowie: Been listening to a lot of the Ziggy Satrdust shit. Good stuff.

3. Flogging Molly: Great drinking and drowning music. Celtic/punk/folk/whatever.

2. The Mars Volta: Great shit. If you've ever heard At the Drive-In, this is a couple of the guys new band. Super improvisational when they're live. I still think At the Drive-in is better but I've listened to them too much.

1. The Murder City Devils: Hands down best band of last ten years. Pure grimy, drunken, rock. Great lyrics. They broke up a couple years ago which sucks. IMO one of the best bands ever, even though they were short lived.

Special mention: If you like 80's funk/dance check out Chromeo. I don't no whether to laugh or dance. Check out there video for Needy Girl on their wesite. One of the best videos ever.

Heee.... I love your taste in music. I wasn't gonna reply cause I can't possibly narrow it down to five, but I'll just give a sort of general list in no particular order.
Pink Floyd (The Wall.. maybe the best album ever put out), David Bowie, The Doors, Van Morrison, The Eagles, The Flaming Lips, Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, The Barenaked Ladies, The Animals, The Beatles (pity the fool who doesn't like the Beatles, for christ's sake...), Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Steve Miller Band, The Police, Beck, Cat Stevens, Tenacious D, Rufus Wainwright, U2, Percy Sledge, and about 50 others that aren't coming to mind at the time.

Top five bands/ or genres:

5. Rock/Death metal/Loud music(lol): any rock mostly: led zep, pink floyd, Mettalica, Iron maiden, Motogrator, twisted sister, Def Leaperd(sp?) Guns and roses, etc....

4. ANY Mexican country music: Vicente fernandez, Joan Sebestatian, Tigres del Norte, Los Hurracanes, Montez de Durango etc...

3. ANY non pop, non rap(worst crap ever), non non-Latin(I hate all non Mexican spanish music) music: Banda Recodo, Banda Lagos, Temerarios, Bukis, Askis, Arkangel R-15, Exterminador, Banda Limon, Conjunto Primavera, Etc....

2. GLORIA TREVI!!: one of the most famous and contreversial MExican female rock stars EVER! During the late 80s and early 90s SHE ROCKED! her music is a mixture of Hard rock/soft rock/pop/country. Some of the songs are soo sad, and some are soo cool. she is contreversial because she and her, at that time her husband
, made a Group of young girls that traveled with them on tour. after 4 years she was put in jail along with her husband with charges of child abuse, rape, drugs and other Icky stuff. SHe was reliazed about 2 weeks ago, lol, you can read about her and check out her awesome music^^

1. Banda Cuissillos: OMG, these guys rulllleeeee! If i knew how to post a song I would, Their music is amixture of Band/Aztec/Country/Pop. Its sooo amazing. there are about 18-20 of them. They all dress up in Aztec customes. I dont know if any of you would like their music. But plz give them a try: banda cuisillos! Soo amazing.

Im guessiong none, or at least a few, know any of the Mexican bands mentioned. Plz give real mexican music (none of that mariachi shit ; ;) a chance^^

If I had to narrow it down to just a couple of artists, I'd pick (in no particular order): REM, Tori Amos, and Los Tres (a Chilean band).

My long list of favorites includes (*takes big breath*): Metallica, David Bowie, U2 (through Zooropa), Danny Elfman, Aterciopelados (Colombia), Ella Fitzgerald, Tom Waits, NIN, Joan Manuel Serrat (Spain), Zeppelin, Los Prisioneros (Chile), Tool, Simon & Garfunkel, The Smiths, Cafe Tacuba (Mexico), MC 900 Ft Jesus, Billie Holiday, The Beatles, The Cure, Talking Heads, Nina Simone, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Tito Puente (cause, goddamn, have you ever seen the man wail away on the congas?), Fiona Apple, and Molotov, and I'm sure a bunch more I've forgotten.

Here's an mp3 of Molotov covering Bohemian Rhapsody that amuses the hell out of me. My taste in music in Spanish seems to run directly opposite that of Chpal's
