I personally think if by 18 years, the parent isn't done parenting, well then they weren't doing their job well enough. At that age, parents yelling at you won't stop someone from doing something, the mom can yell at her all she wants, but she'll do it over and over again. It's the equivalent of teaching abstinence over safety, the mom is completely disallowing her from doing stuff.18 is still a baby!
Personally, I've met people from "the internet" before, my parents know, and it's understood that if I end up as a lampshade in a cabin belonging to some psycho it was probably my own fault for putting myself in that situation. And the mother should try learning that the guy from myspace is as likely to rape her as a guy at a party (remember, date rape predates the internet), and that she will not be able to stop her from getting drunk or meeting people from the internet if she wants to.
I'm 19, my parents do support me, but other than that I'm basically free to do what I want (my mom only gets upset when I don't get enough sleep, I can come home at 4am, sleep over people's places and etc.. but if I come home at 4am and have to wake up at 7am... Well, at least that's a legit thing to get angry about) I like to think they raised my well enough that I won't be doing stupid stuff, sure I'll get drunk here and there, but I'll sleep in my car drunk before I drive home in it drunk, and you know what? If my dad asked me why I didn't come home that night, I'd tell him "I was drunk and didn't want to drive". My parents have faith that they raised my well enough to be autonomous, and I think they're right.
The brother is funny though, but it's more about his own immaturity than anything lol.
