This isn't a post about how expensive stuff is, persay. It's for all those great people who think that if you do not have EVERY piece of top-notch equipment avaible at your level, you're a leech... (I'll name names since Scully encourages it)
A few days ago, I was thrilled to finally get a PT in CN, and the invite was from Poring, who I've had an OK party with before. I figured EXP is EXP, lets get on with it and let me pull. Anyway, during downtime, I point out the fact that /hurray, I finally bought my leaping boots! Then he says, oh, great, but where's the hairpin? I just laugh it off and he goes on to say how I'm kinda holding the party back 'cause I don't have the hairpin... I still think he's joking. But he keeps belaboring the point. Finally, I respond to his nitpicking, and say that well, if all THF are expected to have a hairpin at 24, why can't you have erase at 32 (I think that's the level, I could be wrong)? Both are the same price, and WHM doesn't have to have theirs 'til later. Normally I don't give a crap if anybody has THE BEST equipment, as long as it's fairly recent I'm pleased.
However, when I get dissed 'cause I don't have a very expensive piece of equipment for my level when the person attacking me doesn't have one of THE best spells for his job (which I don't think is really THAT much needed for a while) that costs the same ammount as the thing I need, it kinda sets me back. I realize WHM may have a tougher time making the gil, but you can get it as a BCNM 40 drop. The hairpin you can farm for, or farm enough gil to buy. Oh, just as a side note, his RDM friend, Deathchild, lacking Dispel, also had to snicker that I wasn't wearing the hairpin... Maybe this was just joking around that I let get to me (most things don't), but I just feel that this needs to be addressed...
You just simply cannot expect everybody to have THE best equipment at all times. If you DO expect it, get into a static PT who does if it bothers you that much... All jobs end up being expensive in the end. We all have high-gil gear to buy at one time or another in our careers. It's just ridiculous to expect people to be maxed out at every single level, as most people just dont' have that sort of time to invest into the game. *breathes* Okay, I'm done now...
