For the past 2 or 3 weeks, I've been pining after Rank 5. Every time I have to get on a choco to ride from Jeuno to Windy and visit the cooking guild (or look for a Tele and choco from the crag) it just makes me grit my teeth. Every time I have to wait for my husband to choco back to Jeuno so he can join our party, because he HP'ed in Sandy while mining, I just want to throw something, lol. But, I've been patient- I know that the higher my level is, the easier that mission will be, and the more I'll contribute to an alliance. Too bad that due to money concerns, and my LS helping me raise BRD for BCNM, I've been stuck at level 36 RDM for about a month now. 
But, all that isn't what bothers me- what really, REALLY pisses me off, is that a crappy-ass player got rank 5 before me. You may remember him- he's the same guy I ranted about previously, when he leeched rank 4 off of the good people in my linkshell. Unfortunately our leader didn't make good on his promise to break the guy's pearl, but for a while it didn't matter because he had gone over to a different link. (And one with a pretty crappy rep, judging by some of the jokes I've seen on boards like this about it. I won't name names, but those of you who recognize that deep blue pearl will know which one I mean). Well, a few days ago he comes back. Why? He got tired of his old link, because "People only talked when they wanted something". (Gee, sounds like he should've fit in just fine). So anyway, he pops in one day to ask if we're doing Rank 5. We say No. He wanders off. Next day, he's back, bragging about how he's got some high-levels to help him do the mission. It took him 2 days, but his level 30 no-equipped ass mooched his way to Rank 5. Over the course of those days, he only came onto the link to let everyone know about his progress, despite the fact that I've told him that I'm not happy about him mooching his way to that rank, and he knows that everyone on there feels like me, that rank 5 should be EARNED, not given. *grumps*
So now we have me- level 36 RDM, well-equipped, BLM sub maxed, WHM sub just one level off (raising it this week though), and I research everything I can on the web so I can contribute fully to any party I'm in, whether it be static or pickup. I can only recall 2 instances where I actually asked for help in my life- one was getting that stupid Lapis coral from the maze (ran into 2 JP players who were also doing the mission, and actually made myself useful when we had to fight a Scorp, because I was only one w/ healing magic, heh). The other was when 2 high-levels in Ordelles killed Stroper Chyme near us as we were hunting RSE keys, and got the key to drop, I asked them if they didn't need it, if we could have it. (They didn't, and were very nice, btw.)
Now, compare my record to this other persons- his highest job is 30 BLM, and last I saw he had no equipment for that job. When he wanted to get to 30, one of my friends offered to bring him into her party. He thanks her by disbanding and warping with no warning as soon as he dings. In a conversation with him, he told me that he'd said to someone in Yhoator that he'd join their party as BLM once they escorted him out there and he got Fire element for his ruby, but instead he ditched them like he did my friend. (I bitched him out too, but he just shrugged it off). Even when he's being charitable, he's a jerk- he offered a lowbie in my link some help getting a Kazham key, but when it didn't drop in the first 20-30 minutes he ditched him, citing he had stuff he had to do. The person he ditched died on their way out of Yughott. His important business he had to get to? Leveling his PLD up from level 5. :|
And now, this person is rank 5, with all the perks that come with it. And I'm not just talking about air pass- we all know that there are those out there who will take a rank 5 over a lower rank for parties. I think that's what galls me the most. I know for a fact, that if both he and my husband were competing for a spot in a party, he would be picked first 10 out of 10 times. After all, who wouldn't take a Rank 5 Taru BLM over a Rank 4 Elvaan BLM? *sighs*

Coldplay was in our LS for a little while, he seemed like a nice guy. Guess he just doesnt have the whole tank thing down yet (yes, I know he's a Pld ^^;
