I'm all for remaking a movie if you want to improve on it; but is it Necessary to remake a movie simply because its in another language. Case in point, the original:
[Rec]

and now the remake scheduled for an October release.
Quarintine

So what does everyone else think? Should people just redo a movie simply because it's in another language or should people actually try and make a decent film on there own.

I think that cultural perspective puts a whole different spin on a movie sometimes. The fact is, things that are culturally significant in one country, that would make a strong impact on their people, may not have the same impact to a totally different country or region. Like Lost in Translation. It would have been a completely different movie with different themes if it were a japanese celebrity and japanese stifled wife visiting the United States.

Being a movie buff, I for one enjoy watching both an original and a remake between cultures. Usually I appreciate both, often, I love the original more than the remake, and occasionally, I think the remake improves on a good idea and makes something really spectacular. And a lot of times, seeing the remake drives me to seek out the original that I may not have ever known about or intended to see.

It doesn't bother me a bit. If someone wants to put their own stamp on it, that's fine. The original is still there, unchanged, no matter what they do.

I'm curious to see how this remake works out. I really liked [REC], and thought it actually did a somewhat better job of the Cloverfield-zombie mix than Romero pulled off with Diary of the Dead. If it sucks... well, there's always the original.

That's the broad from The Exorcism of Emily Rose isn't it? I think sometimes you just gotta suck it up and read some sub titles or something. Some movies/shows are just "epic" in the original dubbing

is there a version of REC anywhere online with subtitles? :P looks really cool.

I hate trying read sub titles so as long as they don't destroy the movie, I.E keep it out of uwe boll hands, then I can live with it.
