Movie Sherlock Holmes-2009 Movie

Spoiler:
What I especially liked about the movie is that going in I thought "Well of course Sherlock is gonna expose the guy's magic as bullshit by the end". But halfway through the movie I wasn't so confident anymore. It made me half believe that the guy actually had some dark powers going on. Good stuff. Set up nicely for a sequel too.

I thought the synergy between Law and Junior were awesome. Good action. Good comedy. Good movie.

My last name is Holmes. Therefore I must see this movie.

Seriously though, I used to read Sherlock Holmes (alone with Hercule Poirot and Agatha Christie) and watch the BBC show with my dad growing up. I'll be watching this.

This movie was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. The way they advertised this movie made me think it was going to be over the top action intensive as opposed to having an interesting and clever investigation. Instead it was both, a huge action movie AND a an interesting and clever investigation. Some of the details are wrong, and a lot of the characters are badly converted from their book versions, but they try and get the general sense of the character correct. Well except Watson, he's a completely different character from the book.

As a translation from work to film, I give this movie a low C/ high D. As just a movie, I give it a surprising B+ or so. I could have waited to see this on blu-ray and it would have been alright, but it was still a nice use of my time to watch it in theater.

I greatly enjoyed this movie. There was well-placed action, enough that the movie wasn't totally intellectual, but not so much that it felt out of place in a tale about the detective. They also did a good job tying up some of the loose ends at the end of the movie that explained several things as the movie went on. I can't wait for the sequel. I also can't wait for the blu-ray, as there were many scenes I was watching going "I should be seeing a lot more detail than this."

I give it at B+ and a possible A from translation. Especially Holmes. Have you ever read "A Study in Scarlet" or "The Hound Of The Baskervilles". I mean Holmes is dead on and Watson's personality is prefect.

They nailed everything. The dog, the room, the two windows. The fact that Holmes is quirky weird, and knows nothing about anything other then what involves his profession (he's literally ignorant about anything other then Botany, Anatomy, Chemistry Crime story's, sword fighting, boxing, violin, anything else would just get in his way of knowing that) . The fact that he can look at anyone and tell their past by quick observation. His depression that comes every once in awhile (start of the movie). In the book, it's stated that Holmes would give his colleagues if possible, or himself the chemicals he's been working on, or just to see results. Well in the movie, he does just that with himself, and the bull pup.

Watson on the otherhand, well I could very well see Watson being what he was in the movie (other then fighting like that). I mean that movie virtually took place after many of the novels, hell in the movie, Watson was already moving out of 221 B, Baker St. Jude Law pretty much nailed Watson personality wise. Now yes, in this movie he could fight much better lol, but it was Guy Ritchie. Overall, Watson and Holmes as characters, I give a big thumps up.
