sigh. . .

Blame Can... er, Try Canada!

I'm not sure how an old mark on your parent's credit history will translate up here, but when I signed up for post-secondary I was approved for $17k through the govt (combination of provincial & federal grants). My old man has a good rating though and they proposed he'd have to pitch $7-8k to help me. At the time I applied, I had no credit, no bills, no assets the govt cared to know of.

Pretty much all courses are subsidized by the govt in some way or another... my course (Network Pro) would've cost $12,000 by itself but after the subsidy I only paid $1500. It's a hell of a distance to move and a lifestyle change that may be too great for the gain, but edumacation here is relatively cheap and easy to come by.

There's more polytech institutes across the country but these are the only 3 I'm familiar with. Anyways, if they have the course you're interested in, it's another option at least. Many of the poytech institutes here run courses in September, December, March/April, and June/July... so even if you miss the fall entrance you could still start in winter.

sorry Iso I thought you filled out the Fasfa thing already. It'd help in your situation like others said since you live by yourself and you're independent(right?) so it'd be easy to apply. Wish I could do the same but parents make too much=/

Dearest Iso,

Imma win the lotto and send you to school.

Love,

Morwen.

No really. Have you checked out government grants? You don't pay those back and there are thousands of them. I think the only stipulation would be that you absolutely graduate >_>. Babeh, I know with your supreme talent and your stubbornness that you can get this done easy. All this is, is a bump in the road. Treat it as such and keep figuring out how to materialize your dreams. You know I'm here for you whenever you need me.

Went thru a company called Next Student Loans. It would have been a loan for school, room/board, books etc. Moink thinks it has to do with the amount that they applied for but in the past it's given options for lesser amounts if not approved, ya know?

Guy on the phone made a huge deal about my parent's bankruptcy, though it was almost 8 years ago, and almost off their credit hitory.

There are a few more options for loans, but I don't know how well it's going to go. I have no credit history really, and what I have is meh.. and I have a feeling any other private loan companies are gna be the same way as this, about their bankruptcy.

Idk, was very dissappointing when i was looking forward to getting enrolled and getting back to school finally, after a year and a half of being out.

It can be difficult to get enough to pay for undergrad tuition entirely from federal loans if you're going to a private institution, which is maybe why you're trying for additional loans? I'd recommend trying Sallie Mae, their rates can get kinda high (depending on the credit scores) but it may be an option for you. I know my tuition was high enough that federal loans and grants didn't cover all of it either for my undergrad classes, but I was able to cover the remainder with a loan from Sallie Mae. Of course I didn't try to cover room/board etc. with the loan, but it can't hurt to try.
GL!
