Skaw?

Now w/o it HONESTLY you could ban someone w/o the population knowing, and 3/4 of the public wouldn't know.

What's wrong with that though? It shouldn't concern anyone here why others get banned especially if they don't know them. They obviously wasn't on the good side of very many. I get where you're commin' from but your wants aren't a necessary for the good of the board. Really it is a waste of the Mod's time. You can simply just ask if you notice someone of use banned and you'll get answers, just like I did with Skaw. It's not like C&P broke anything down to a meaningful matter anyway. It didn't give enough details to see a pictures at least. I got better answers when I asked about Skaw than I would have from just seein' a locked thread in C&P.

If the Mods decide to just out-right ban someone for shits and giggles, they'll do it whether or not the C&P forum is there. Takin' that into consideration, along with the above and it's clearly an unneeded area for us.

I think what it all boils down to is that the user feels a sense of Mod patrollin' takin' away from them. All I can say to that is grow up a little or be more observant.

As for Skaw, which the threads should have been nothin' but about, he's a useful guy no matter how irritatin' he can be sometimes, or in the past I should say in my case. Sure he may have went against some wishes, but wishes are wishes, nothing more. In the end he could have been ignored just like the rest of the user base would have been told to do or done of their own thoughts. I think he should be considered to be brought back given a "tif" is a lousy reason to perma-ban someone, especially given his contributions and history. It's the internet but hell, that shouldn't make those of us with sense stop actin' like adults, goes for Skaw as well I'd guess.

In my honest opinion C&P did help us in a few ways. One being a common knowledge about posting in regards to banned members. Whether this was an actual rule, I would hope since you are doing away with C&P then we can implement the talking shit about banned members. This being said since we have no real knowledge of communication between moderators and "banned" members then it shouldn't be an infraction correct?

Flaming banned members isn't against the rules (The rules are in a pretty public space for everyone to read. Maybe try reading them). Its just an incredibly stupid thing to do. Why would you flame people that have no chance to come and defend themselves? It would make the flames more boring then they already have been.

Secondly, it wasn't just a communication regarding moderators to figure out infractions. Some of us used it as a basis that you weren't just banning members for shits and giggles. IMHO the C&P was used as a basis upon which people could generate a good idea as per why people were banned. Whether or not we knew the person banned, at least it gave us a commonplace of what to/not to do in regards to what was a bannable offense. Albeit you could look at the rules, but actual implimentation of the rules in action helps as well.

You seriously want to know what is and isn't a bannable offense? There are rules. The breaking of rules gets you infractions. Too many infractions or a big enough rule break will get you banned. That's basically how things are implemented around here.

Thirdly, as was stated in regards to my second reason, which I would like to reiterate. It gives us a basis upon which, reasons you banned someone. Now w/o it HONESTLY you could ban someone w/o the population knowing, and 3/4 of the public wouldn't know. Baj put it best when he said "Gestapo much?" Because its the truth. Even when the court systems IRL put someone in jail, there is a database in which the person is placed in that dictates the reason of which he/she was put in jail.

You call us Gestapo and you really prove just how stupid and ignorant you are. This isn't real life. We aren't blackbagging people and killing them. This is a forum for a videogame, jesus christ. Who cares if its someone that 3/4 of the population doesn't notice go missing. The 1/4 that does notice can PM anyone and get an answer, because they are the 1/4 that have any sort of stake in the person banned.

In the same respect even pedobears are placed in an internet database once they are released from jail. Shouldn't the same respect be placed here? Unless you all really like gestapo like activity.

Holy shit. You actually compared internet forum moderation to pedophiles? Not even kosherness would have saved this retarded thread.

At least Strid got it right.

I merged the Skaw/C&P threads into one. Makes for easier reading.

Just a backstory on the C&P as well...from what I got from talking to Sculli and some former mods/admins is that C&P was put in place mainly for the staff to keep track of users who are racking up bans. So say we put member x on RO and then a month later they pull the same crap it would be cause for a harsher ban.

With the infractions system put into place, we now have another forum that automatically notifies staff when an infraction was given, how many points and the reasons. This is a nice internal control type of thing because it has the post attached to it and shows everything that was sent to the user. That way in case (I doubt it would ever happen) Sneaky or Make put out a bullshit infractions for someone they don't like they can be called out on it.

Also, infractions are attached to a users account now and can be reviewed by staff and the user without going through a forum. The C&P discussion isn't something that was just thought up. It has been discussed quite a bit in the back and the current bannings have forced a decision to be made.

Hope that clears up a little bit about the C&P.

Because basically telling everyone to go fuck themselves and then locking the thread is awesome, fair, and mature moderation.

Who shit in the collective bowl of moderator Cheerios lately? I didn't see a whole lot of "B&M"ing. The 11 still-loyal patrons of this once useful site should have the right to know what's going on, yeah? But I guess that's beyond the spectrum of the mod-squad that doubles the population of this board and has to check and make sure the 25 posts that pop up a day are status-quo.

A "go fuck yourself" attitude should be expected as it's merely reciprocal. The more often people refuse to play by the rules and question them, the less we're willing to hold their hands each time and talk it out. When we get disrespected on a regular basis it should really be no surprise that that we only act in accordance to the Golden Rule. If it seems that harsh to you, it's your choice to take it that way.

Really though, we just have decisions to make, and when the same shit comes up time and time again, which basically boils down to the users thinking they are entitled to this, that, details of moderation, etc, then the staff posts that follow will be spoken in a language that cannot be misunderstood. If it's harsh, that's fine. At least the point gets across. It's not to be all, "FU" as much as it is to get the point through the thicker skulls. Yeah, it's necessary. The pleading with users method does not and has not gotten the point across. When all else fails, it's fine and dandy to just blast a message out there and close a thread.

As for mature, any moderation has been mature. Closing the thread after final thoughts was mature. Keeping this "discussion" open when there's nothing for the users to discuss is not mature and only invites additional drama.

For a true explanation of why C&P is going away, you would have needed to read, and perhaps quote further than the paragraph where I was only encapsulating the attitude of the bawwwfest users. Who pissed in our Cheerios? Nobody, really. We just apply the rules and people earn their own infractions.

It does seem, frequently, that someone pissed in a select few (the same few, time and time again) users' Cheerios. Those users conveniently like to say that it was the staff that pissed in their Cheerios. That's really just more bawwing and dancing around the rules. There is no gray area. There is nothing up for discussion in regards to a user getting banned, or why you don't know all the details about it, or loopholes.

Users of this site (should) know the rules and post within those parameters. Don't break the rules and you've got nothing to worry about. Most people don't, in fact. Just don't go looking for trouble because you'll find it.
