So this game's been around for a while. Actually kind of surprised there wasn't a thread on it already.

Yet another of a multitude of MMORPGs that came out roughly within the span of last year and tail end of 2011. I've recently had the pleasure of experiencing this MMO within the last few weeks. There are 8 classes and I believe 7 or 8 races and 3 of those races do not have a Male/Female counter part. Kinda of like Galka and Mithra in FFXI. Every race can be every class and the only difference between races are their unique racial traits and abilities, which vary slightly in some cases and greatly in others. The racial bonuses are unique enough to be interesting and helpful, yet not overpowering to the point where its broken.

They tout the combat in the game as being it's defining element, and it is definitely different from the norm. Instead of just hitting hotkeys and letting your character auto attack you actually have to control where and when you attack by clicking your mouse to execute your basic attack ability and using the hot keys to initiate other skills. You also have to pay attention to enemy abilities and actively dodge (or block if your class has that ability). Dodging attacks plays a huge role in combat, because if you don't dodge you will find yourself dead quickly. Attacks do not automatically land because the enemy triggers it toward you. It's all proximity based, and that goes for attacks you make against an enemy as well. If you don't aim towards your target, your attack is likely not going to hit it at all. Thankfully this game utilizes a combo system where certain skills trigger other skills to be used after them and merely hitting the spacebar automatically starts that combo chain ability. This is highly useful since combat is fairly fast paced and you have to be ready to dodge enemy attacks as often as you can while still piling on damage.

I play a Slayer, which is the class that wields a gigantic two handed sword. Each class has only one weapon type or weapon combination. In my opinion that is perhaps the only downside to the game, however, it works well.

Another staple of the game are BAMs (literally meaning "Big-Ass-Monsters", official term, no joke). Think of them kind of like NMs were in XI. You pretty much can't solo them unless you are a Lancer, which is the beefy Hp/Defense tanking class of the game, but not the only class that can tank. However, unlike XI, these BAMs are often normal mobs that roam openly in most areas of the game and not solitary monsters. BAMs are also used as bosses in some dungeons.

I am only level 35, and I believe the level cap is 60. I have really been enjoying the main storyline for this game, a lot. I mean, I have found it to be quite interesting and fun.

Now the game has just went through a free to play update, and it's completely free. If you bought the game before and still have your game box/activation code then you are eligible for a status called Founder. I got it even though I just recently bought the game because I had the code. You get a really cool mount and a few other very nifty things. If you were playing as pay to play before, and still had an active account, you get what's called 'Elite' status which gives you a few extra perks that I don't feel like detailing. Either way it's still neat, and it's basically optional if you choose to continue making monthly payments, then you will get the Elite bonuses. But for me, I get it through sometime in March because my 'free month' of play counts as a subscription. It's neat.

The game is pretty cool, and now it's completely free to play.

Oh, and it doesn't hurt that the game is actually very visually pleasing, fantasy with a twinge of realism. Game looks great on high end systems.

I played the Beta, but wasn't interested in monthly fees. But it's free to play now? Think I'll play :P I was that lancer thingy.

I seem to remember us having a thread over this at some point, but I do remember the time period it would have been around, the board was all wonky and deleting things/not posting properly. I remember for a while I didn't even bother to show up around here because I knew nothing worked. So it probably got spirited away by the Internet or something.

I played this game for a while; got a Lancer to 60, Berserker to 50, and everything else to 30+. I enjoyed the game, despite it definitely not matching the quality I expect from a $16 a month game. I was happy to stick with it though, despite the tons of issues that cropped up technically in the end-game (it's a poor game in the technical department), but then we got the summer event update... The event had players do various things to get swimsuits and other various ocean gear costumes for their characters. In Japan and Korea these costumes were yours forever once you got them, which took some work. In the West, they were 30 day consumable items and if you wanted to keep them, you had to pay a premium in the cash shop. Then and there, I quit and never looked back. You don't do that shit when you're asking for a sub fee.

Now that it's free I'll prolly play a bit until Monster Hunter Ultimate hits in March, after all, I only ever played this game to substitute MH.
