Greetings!
I'm Swipe! err.. I'm Paddlecat!
Mithra Paladin that recently moved here from Midgard.
Y'know how it is to move to a new area.. it's lonely! I need friends. Fortunately most of my acquaintances didn't' have a choice and they were moved along with me.
Let me tell you a bit about myself...
Background:
I had a hard childhood. I grew up in the back alleys and slums in Windurst. I was constantly in trouble with the Cardians and Star Sibyl. A delinquent, outcast, troublemaker, good-for-nothing... all these titles were thrust upon me by people who failed to see my true worth. It wasn't until I got caught by Semih Lafihna, that I learned what proper hard work was. I got captured while trying to sneak into the inner chamber to steal pottery and artwork tapestries. From there, I learned how to track and hunt, how to work, and how to find purpose in my life.
For a very long time now I've been known to work as a slave trader from Windurst. I take ownership of other people who were indebted to the tenshodo group.
My trusty partner Tincantank and I would round up people who were too poor to pay back their debts. We would then 'help them find new work' .. of sorts. While this might not sound very appropriate, I must point out that I have an 'agreement' with Tenshodo that I get to make certain decisions on who I sell to. Not to worry though, i took good care of them.. in fact, I kept a few 'employees' for myself. The Moogle is much less depressed now that he has regular help and company.
1. Avoid cross-gender sales, no sells to Beastmen. We sell slaves, not sex slaves or food.
This sometimes caused some trouble for Tincan and I, but we managed to get by. Awhile ago, Kucha Malkobhi fell on hard times and made the mistake of asking Nanaa Mihgo for help, then couldn't return the payments in time.
She almost got sold to a creepy Tarutaru with large flaring nostrils and beady eyes, but I turned him away. I just couldn't subject a fellow Mithra to such a situation.
Instead, I put her to work with the help of those SOBs that always run amuck around town. I convinced them to start collecting adventurers old, discarded lv.1 RSE. I had them super-sanitize-clean the discarded garments, dye and stitch up any tatters, then resell them.
After a year and a half, Kucha managed to buy her freedom and now makes a pretty good living doing exactly this. Her Bazzar is over in Port Windurst, near the homepoint crystal. Drop by and say 'Hi' to her the next time you're around.
2. Background checks on all perspective buyers
This was one of the things that other 'meat auctioneers' would never bother with doing. We check to make sure there are no evil stepmothers, wicked stepsisters, heavy drinkers or shady individuals in the family before completing a sale.
3. FO'SSHO
I wanted to makes sure each person could have a proper opportunity to earn their freedom. Some folks would just keep them as slaves for the rest of their lives... but I just couldn't sleep at night knowing that. So, I created the organization FO'SSHO - Fair and Orderly Slave Self Help Organization. The goal of this group was to follow up and ensure each slave had at least 3 chances to earn their freedom. Unfortunately, some lazy slaves (mostly Tarutarus) never did what was required to earn freedom and are now beyond the help of FO'SSHO.
4. Early adopter of the Rent-A-Slave plan (now known as Signal Pearl.)
I hopped right on board when Tenshodo suggested we create a system that allows people to work off growing debts by helping adventurers. It was very complicated and confusing at first.. but now, the rent-a-slave system is in full function! A Signal Pearl is used to call your assigned slave. They come, pretend to be friends, and help out as best they can. In exchange for this, Tenshodo will deduct a small amount of the money owed. This brilliant scheme.. erm.. plan.. was created so Moogles wouldn't be dragged out of your comfy mog house and into a battle with monsters. Instead of calling your Moogle, call your rented slave instead. A monthly bill is then sent to your moghouse, which your moogle is obligated to pay. (Yes, we even fleece your Moogles.)
My largest clients are the Chateau in San d'Oria and the Mines out near Bastok. Even Star Sibyl buys her chamber assistants from me.
Despite all this, I am actually semi-retired from the slavery business. I now only take on special cases. In my spare time I go adventuring with Tincantank and Elizara, my partner and my long time friend from Midgard.
Because of all the changes, I felt like I needed a name change!
My primary class is Paladin, and I am constantly paddling the Yagudo back into their nests. So, I chose Paddlecat.
In any case, I look forward to adventuring and doing business with you all on Quetzalcoatl.
