What SE did to Bsts

I think a number of them have probably already quit, like RNGs after their deal. Hopefully good, helpful BSTs like Miros and Bogo will stay with it, along with up and coming BSTs like myself, Halifirien and Mattaru.

/blush XD Can't get me down by this at all.

I've already said, if you are a smart and determined BST, you can still make this work. I went XPing tonight in Bibikibay. Worked fine. Had little flaws.

If someone quits over this I'd totally call out the gilbuyer thing cause it's obvious they get pissy when things get a little tough. I mocked the people who bitched at the RNG nerf, cause it's pointless to bitch this much. I will mock, well, not completely mock since some are my friends, but just suggest that the others take it calmy in the update.

I'd hope your parents didn't raise you to whine and complain til you get what you want. Fight and survive! Jeepers creepers. ; ;;;;;;;

I fully believe this was 100% intentional. That quote about "no class was ever intended to be a solo class" just fits in with my perceptions of the game designer's intentions for FF.

Keep in mind that FFXI is, at it's core, a Japanese game. So many things in Japanese culture seem to stress doing things the "right" way, following the strategies that have been proven to give optimal results. Team efforts are lauded more than the contributions of a single member. Is it really all that surprising then, that the designers may have seen the insistance of Beastmasters soloing as "dangerous" to their percieved game balance?

The message I get from SE after this patch is "Get back in party where you belong, you cheating freaks". Well, fuck that. I've played RDM in a static from level 40. I've soloed and duoed my way to 52 BST. I've told my husband many a time that if I never have to xp with a pickup party ever again, then I'd be in heaven. I don't have the patience for standard xp anymore. BST was my refuge from LFG and crappy pickups.

So, if this "fix" is here to stay, then here's what I'm going to do . . . I'm going to farm my way to 75. Yep, you read that right. A mess of good jugs, a plethora of pet food, and slaughter EP mobs for however many months or years it takes to get it done. I may only break-even/small profit on the cost of consumeables in lots of camps, but goddamn I'll have more beastman and kindred seals than you can imagine.

Please pardon if this post seems poorly put together- I took an ambien just a short while ago and now I'm at the point where I may as well be posting drunk, haha.

As a 72 bst, all I can say is I'm damn happy that I hit 72 before this fucking update... All bsts below got screwed badly. Goodbye manticore parties, goodbye bst alliances taking tiamat, and a whole hell of a lot of the other great things about bst. We got pwned by SE... end of story... fuck you SE.

Honestly, at this point I'm too depressed over the situation to attempt figuring out a new way to solo. I've started playing my taru mule for now. When I feel a bit better about this change I'll probably be back out in CN trying my best to solo, looking out for ways to use this pet disappearing nonsense to my benefit.

For now, Call me Rekunaku.

Oh, and I'd also like to note. That I can speculate (it is almost a given now) that BST will become very much like NIN in terms of cost. Crafters will jump on the fact that BST will have a hard time exping without pet food and jugs, and thus prices will rise accordingly.

This has already happened, 20k for pet food Epsilon and Zeta, it won't be long before the others jump along with jug pets.

Also, a chat log from a TSR:

FFXI TSR Jereme: Hello, floyd , thank you for contacting the PlayOnline Information Center. Just a few moments while I review your question, please.
floyd ly: hi =) is the problem being resolved? with bstmaster?
floyd ly: Im pretty sure you guys have heard alot today
FFXI TSR Jereme: Currently the game is working as intended. THe only change made to the Beastmaster job was to provide 100% experience while using pets in combat.
FFXI TSR Jereme: Are there any other issues I can assist you with right now, floyd ?
floyd ly: their are issues with bst and exp
floyd ly: when we release a pet it restores our pets lives
floyd ly: and it is difficult to run back to radius point
floyd ly: including non aggro pets that we need
FFXI TSR Jereme: The game is working as intended, this game is not designed to allow solo game play beyond level 10. The features for the game are working as intended.
FFXI TSR Jereme: Are there any other issues I can assist you with right now, floyd ?
floyd ly: yea, people believe that bstmaster is a solo job and I will not get party invites how is this being resolved?
floyd ly: Iam still not getting party invites.. as we play no major role
FFXI TSR Jereme: The game is working as intended, no job was intended to be a solo class. This game is designed for grouping byond level 10.
FFXI TSR Jereme: Are there any other issues I can assist you with right now, floyd ?
floyd ly: there are forumns where thier is talk of 100-300 bst quiting per server and I did a search today only 1600 online
floyd ly: so basically your telling us you are nerfing our job?
floyd ly: awesome you will get my letter of resignition soon as well as 12,000 other bst
FFXI TSR Jereme: I am telling you that the game is working as intended by the developers of this game.
FFXI TSR Jereme: Are there any other issues I can assist you with right now, floyd ?
floyd ly: their are errors
floyd ly: You can charm invisable pets
floyd ly: monsters appear on begginers
floyd ly: our job is nerfed
floyd ly: should just ban the job
floyd ly: look man your just doing your job, and Iam pretty sure youve had hell the whole day but I guess I just wanted to share my pain as well as 12,000 other fellow bst out their
floyd ly: I used to have respect for square enix but as of today
floyd ly: I guess I dont believe in you guys anymore
floyd ly: back to the days of squaresoft
FFXI TSR Jereme: Adjust to play as the job was actually intended to play. This game has never been intended to be a single player game.
FFXI TSR Jereme: The game is working as intended.
floyd ly: its not going to adjust that way man
FFXI TSR Jereme: If you would like to submit a complaint please use the email support forum Comments & Suggestions, from the Service & Support section of the PlayOnline Viewer.
floyd ly: theirs major errors
floyd ly: I already have
floyd ly: plenty
floyd ly: my question is
floyd ly: is their talk? that their going to fix it? or their completely ignoring this issue?
FFXI TSR Jereme: As I have stated the game is working as intended, and there are no plans to remove the changes to stop players from MPK'ing other players. You will need to learn how to play the job in the way it was originally intended in a group.
FFXI TSR Jereme: Are there any other issues I can assist you with right now, floyd ?
floyd ly: ok thank you =) you guys just lost 1 more guy in POL =) thanks so much for saving my money jereme.. for telling me ahead of time their is no fix in the future
floyd ly: i may be 1 guy now but it will grow to 12,000 soon

Note that it isn't me who contacted the TSR, just something I found on forums.

Don't give up, man. I'm unretiring my RDM (great, test farming again...) because of the change, but I'm still going to be leveling my BST whenever Halifirien and I can give it the time we think it deserves.

Doing my best not to quit BST, because the area I EXPed at 54 fortunately works at 55, unless those stupid NPC XPers show up...or Demonic Tiphia.. --;

And SE is f-!king stupid if they thing people will just suddenly invite people with open arms. It's not that easy. Either people dunno the benefits of a decent/well-equipped BST in a party (hell, it seems a few BSTs themselves don't know the benefit..), and several melees seem to object to having a little more competition...oh well, was fun while it lasted. Lesse if my 58-before-2006 goal still happens..

You know what, SE can suck my left nut. I don't care whether or not they think bst is meant to be a solo job. It's a solo job for me and I'll be damned if I let them tell me how to play my game. I pay them, not vice versa.

Good suggestion. I've calmed down considerably since the update. I've written my letters to SE, complained here for a bit.......Now it's time to get on with life.

I wanted to share a few observations with everyone though. First, the new Regen feature from pet food is no joke. I used a pet food zeta (20,000k by the way, up from 10,000) on a funguar jug pet last night and noticed after the initial hp increase of about 400, it's life bar was moving in chunks, Large chunks. It went from about 40% to 60% after the initial boost.

Also wanted to say something about what a jug pet can and can't do. Some keep saying that they do crap damage, too weak, etc..... My opinion is that jug pets do considerable damage which when added to the Beastmaster's own attacks make this job one of the best damage dealers in the game. What a jug pet can't do well is tank. Jug Pet vs. IT mob - mano e mano spells bad news for the juggie. But you know what, my BLM can't tank an IT mob either. A Beastmaster in a party, with the right gear, a WAR sub job (maybe even THF post 60) and a Funguar, Diremite, Tiger pet is a big can of whoop ass.

Jug pets can be good, but with all seriousness, a HQ Jug (lets say, Carrie) will get slaughtered by an EM of the same race (crab). Or even a low DC. They're kindof a "better than nothing" thing..

This is more of the kinda posts that we need. Helpful critisism instead of the typical F' You SE. We've all got friends on here, and the friends of the friends have friends! It can't be too hard to find someone that has the cooking skill needed for those pet items. shoot, many people here have already extended their hand to help.

Pickles.

Like I said, Jug Pet's aren't tanks. They still hit pretty good though.

Doing a BCNM60 last night with a funguar jug it was hitting a pretty tough ghost for 120/hit and a crit for 230.

I've offered to help people with the synths. Provide me with the meat and the proper eggs and I'll handle the rest. Earth clusters are absurdly easy to farm for this stuff as well.

ACC isn't that important these days, buddy.[/i]

okay, go into a fight with all strength gear and attack gear with no accuracy aside from sushi, you'll see how important it is. I have 3 macro sets for BST, Accuracy/attack and charm(and gaudy harness swap in). If I melee with my pet on a low evasion T mob with tuna sushi and my charm gear on instead of my accuracy/attack gear, solo, i might be lucky enough to hit 100tp before I have to leave, assuming I don't swap pets.

In a duo, without my accuracy/attack gear I will not get 100 tp by end of the fight, it will take me 2 fights on a VT mob. Now let's apply that all to IT++++ mobs you fight in a party, there is now way you can balance accuracy and maintain attack like every other DD with attack and accuracy bonus traits. the only help you will get is through gear and a sub, in which event many other melee class get access to the same stuff. The only item that adds alot of attack and is BST only I can think of is the wrath tabar, but really, you won't out DD a WAR on rampage or out tp him, and the little damage a jug pet will provide won't do much to boost overall stats.

Now if you can find a good camp with even and decent challenge pets available, you certainly could be a very useful melee DD, but groupings of IT along with decent challenges just doesn't happen on any map I can think of.

No matter what you say, BST is only as good as the pet it controls. It's why we have charm

No abilities? You know what Call Beast does? You may think they suck, but a boost in damage output, no matter how small, is still a boost in damage output. You're not the only job that doesn't have native offense abilities. Look at Ninja. And to a lesser extent, Dragoon. Those two jobs hold their own in a pt with just subjob abilities, and so does BST.

wow, if I was a DRG I'de be pissed. DRG's are one of the fastest TP gainers in the game because of their Jump abilities. if you haven't noticed, there aren't alot of DD ninjas in exp parties. BST has Call BST and Sic. Call bst summons a pet that is basically worthless against anything above decent. And Sic can randomly throw and AOE into the picture and is resisted 99% of the time by anything above a T anyway.

believe what you want, all our abilities and traits are for a solo job

Not so much. Seems to me you're just ignorant in the party-side of Beastmaster.

I have experienced parties from several different jobs in this game. I know by nowwhen I'm being productive, or when I'm riding coat tails or slowing exp. I've flirted with BST in party, never got more than 1k exp from them cause I knew it wasn't working, it didn't feel right. The only party I ever want is with BST's and SMN's.

No one knows the absolute true role but Square. They over look a lot. Maybe BST wasn't designed to solo, but it just turned out that way, like Ninja Tanking. .

k, so let's all of a sudden take ninja and make it a tank no more and make it a party DD..... right.

Sorry, I worded that badly. I didn't mean in terms of HP..I mean an EM (or even DC) Crab will hit for much, much harder than Courrie will. This either means much higher str/att, or much higher vit/def..or both. And this sorta applies to all jug pets, unfortunately.
