Why in the hell...

WHM aren't weak, they can beat the snot outta things. With all the +haste on the blessed gear, Reverent Mail, and a /NIN, WHM swing those hammers hard and fast. I wish I could outdamge Talindra. :-x

As far as survivability... stoneskin, aquaviel, regen 3, and lots of cures/barspells, plus decent enfeebling, makes them amazingly difficult to kill.

Talindra's a Beast, Her Attack Speed is 216 Swinging a pair of DS Mauls at a Base Damage of 40. Hexastrike is a really nice weaponskill and Closes or opens Light so she can Burst her own Banish III for a decent chunk of damage and trace it with a Holy for Double Burst.

Solo she's got 22 second Utsusemi: Ichi's, 33 Second Utsusemi: Ni's, Stoneskin when they are down, Blink, Flash, and Cures for when all that fails. As a last resort, she's always got the ace in the hole: Reraise III.

If a if killing Thief is like trying to catch flies with chopsticks; killing a properly combat equiped White Mage is akin to trying to break an egg that's wrapped in a pillow, that's in a steel box, that's in a safe, that's in an armored car that's hurling at you going 100Kph.

Whm are sick.

I've never really tried to solo an Eye before, do they resist Sleep/Bind? I'm guessing they do.......but I can list my solo experiences and strategy.

Phraust is right on the money about WHM. They are very very tough, except when they aggro a couple magic pots lol. Stun/Hide (Do you need it?)

With Grand Temple Knight's Bangles, (eva skill+7 in areas outside nations control) Evasion torque, SH, Crimson feet, Chaos flanchard, and every Status Bolt...
Soloing is quite easy on DRK. At lv74 my evasion caps at 222...236 capped keeps me evading nearly everything from DC mobs. With that setup I could solo Elder Goobues up in the Boyahda Tree (+Echo drops).
They would miss me often enough to land blind bolts, which help tremendously. If shadows went down - Sleep bolts...If those would miss too often, it's still not a problem...Stun > Sleep > Bind > Blind bolt > Engage
Now, this is what I like the most about DRK...If by chance my shadows would be down and it uses "Blow" or "Uppercut" on me for 300-500dmg, still not much of a problem. Put it back to Sleep, cast shadows, Drain, Bind > Bloody bolt back to a safe amount of HP. When the Goobue reaches 30% HP or below...I put it to sleep > Absorb VIT > Acid bolt > Souleater + Rampage = Dead Goobue.

Now what I find funny, is how equip can effect our (DRK) gameplay so much.
With Hauberk, Crimson hands legs feet, Optical hat....Sozu Rogberry gave me a little trouble. I had to use my Goobue techniques on it because of the equip I was wearing. -10 Evasion was really hurting me...even though OHat balances that out. Shadows would go down fairly quickly and I would have to Sleep him for around 5-10 seconds - waiting for utsusemi recast timer.

Sozu likes to Triple attack....A lot sometimes. I had him at 10%HP and Lateral Slash took out my last shadow. I remember this very well.

Little bugger. Triple attack x3.....It hit me 9 times in a row - most of them criticals. This brought me from ~1100HP to ~300HP in a matter of seconds. Fubio watched this and most likely thought I was dead soon after...

Thankfully it also gave me enough TP to Rampage him to death...

So IMO, gear up and DRK can be quite successfull at soloing.

If I could have a Speed belt/Dusk gloves+feet/Ace's Helm.....I would just outright melee and keep shadows up as needed.

awesome... thx alot Dowzer, gonna revamp a bit of my gear, and I'm finally getting my OHat this saturday :D! after losing my 1st 2 clusters, this will be my last one... win or lose it's going to be the last... and damn well hope I get it-.-; but thx alot for the suggestions Dowz... gonna take a look over everything thx again man

let me stress this--- FORMER--- 72 DRK speaking here. it was months ago but here's my spin.

Firstly eyes suck. For everyone. THey cast nasty high damage spells (which you can stun) they hit really hard (which is bad for you) and they are *drumroll* DARK element. This means your drain and aspir do exactly crap because the eye is gonna resist the hell out of them. I don't know about you but when I was solo'ing (got several of my haku-eyes solo on drk/nin and i wasnt high enough for utsu-ni at the time) I relied on my drain and aspir to keep me going through a fight. Things I hated were dark mobs, and monk mobs. (No mp to aspir >.< and eat your ichi fast).

My advice: Dont solo eyes!

Now seriously: Your best weapon is gonna be the scythe and your WS of choice is going to be Guillotine. Why? Guillotine add. effect is silence. And a silenced eye does a hell of a lot less damage to you than a casting eye. Save stun for high level -aga line magic. Utsusemi can eat flood or quake but not aeroga3. Stun that flood if you cant get your shadow up though >_>; Carry status cure pots. Fcker blinds you or para's you first turn and things can turn ugly fast.

DRK can solo, and do so decently. You are very strong versus elementals, at least I could take an EP or sometimes even a DC elemental out while my mnk is scared shtless of any elemental that isnt too weak. Why? Because mnk is very very weak to elemental mobs (Spikes, status effects, high physical resistance). I can't complain that my mnk sucks just because elementals pwn her. And you cant complain a dark-type mob is owning your drk because its just the way it is :P

last comment, i suggest giving up on making your DRK evasion tank. It just isnt meant to do that and no amount of gear is going to make up for the natural lack of anything evasive. Try making your poor dark KNIGHT into more of a VIT tank, HP bonuses and defense (Not of course at too much cost of attack power). I really loved my AF armor for its great defensive values and used many pieces of it when i solo'd and during things like the Maat fight. Your drk was meant to wear plate not paper. Because he will get hit, a lot, even through shadows you need to be able to take those hits not crumple when they land.

Try not to fight those eyes too often, other than pure undead (god i hate undead thats why i rerolled monk to punch their bloody faces in.) eyes are probably the toughest mob in the game versus a drk.

I know you mean in general, but in the case of the Eye mobs, doesn't that "Eyes on Me" attack automatically chop like 40% on your current HP while ignoring shadows? That could probably be why.

I sometimes solo these mobs with my MNK when I level my NPC, being a MNK interrupting spells is not hard, but this particular TP move is retardly powerful, anyone know what's its damage based on?, I remeber the eyes in xarcabard do exactly 291 damage to me, the ones in the castle do more.

Ahhh trusty Guillotine, I use it on nearly any mobs who cast spells....Particularly Tonberry Stabbers(any ninja mobs)/Magic Pots..I like Rampage for BLM types, because if they start casting Ancient Magic - that gives free time to gain more TP/Bloody bolt..

Our evasion is average, capping at 222 during lv74...I raise that to 236 with Gnd.Tmp.Knight Bangles + Evasion torque. With Merits+Evasion earring I could raise that to 248 and possibly 250+ @lv75

I'm speaking from experience with the same Mob but with different setups here...One being evasion, the other being DEF/HP.

Sozu Rogberry was very very very easy to solo with this setup. Evading its attack is key, because it is a Thief. Please keep in mind, my evasion is at 236 and I have basically no trouble keeping up shadows. It would miss me so much that I could keep up shadows without ever having to use Sleep/Sleep bolts with that setup. Blind bolts helped a lot during this too.

The time I was nearly tripple attacked to death...I had no evasion skill+ or evasion+ equipped.
I was wearing a Hauberk, Ohat, Crimson Hands, Legs, and Feet. (Crimson Hands, Legs, Feet = HP+60 and 93DEF) It is some of the best DEF(3rd or 4th highest DEF) and has a nice amount of HP+

As a DRK, I cannot take damage - we aren't PLD but we closely resemble a Warrior. Our Evasion is the same level as a Warriors, but our Defense is much less considering we don't have Defender. I really think it's a lot better to evade, rather than to take damage. Add shadows to that and you'll hardly ever get hit.

Now I'm sorry to say, but Maat is really too weak. With a Blink Band, some DRKs have killed him without being touched. Chasym for one, layed him out with 2 Guillotines - never was hit by the old man.

The final and -best- setup for a DRK solo, is Haste.

Imagine Utsusemi timers @ only 20-25 seconds.

Paralyze can get ugly, but most of the time our job trait resists it. I wouldn't suggest buying Remedy (they are expensive and Paralyze WILL eat them most of the time) Blind really sucks, I carry eye drops for that and echo drops for silence.

For monsters who use TP moves which Silence, Blind, Petrify, Doom, etc.....Simply turn around. You'll have to count their TP to be accurate on when to turn....Hit&Run is the best strat, know when your next swing is and turn around when it happens. The TP move will have "No effect".

I particularly like soloing Dolls, because they melt down sometimes. It makes for an easy and fast fight. Just watch for it and count their TP....When you see it jump in the air, just run away.

The _____ Doll uses Meltdown.
No target in area of effect.
