In many states, servers don't even make minimum wage. Federal minimum wage is $6.55/hr iirc. The servers at my other job make $2.13 an hour.

Back when I was working service I was making $6.75 p/h no base tips.. and never full time hours.

However, I must say this increase(s) coming are a breath of fresh air yet still significantly low for the basic cost of living in Ontario.

Sounds like it, but (depending on your personality and skill level) you can make $500 - $800 per week part time with just tips. And most servers don't claim all their tips, so a good portion of that is tax free.

If the hours supported my family life, I'd still be waiting tables. I made more money serving than have at any other job. I enjoy spending time with my husband and children, and you can't make anything with just M-F lunch shifts. =/

Yea, I've worked places where you can make $300 a night in tips... was usually at bars though and getting your ass grabbed just ain't worth it!
