So, I was having problems with my internet, like usual...so, I decided to check it out myself, instead of calling Charter to try and fix it. Now, I'm not an expert in anything except for being excitable and bored at the same time, so, I did my best by peeking at the coax cables...

I notice something odd, right away.

My cable internet and tv is running through TWO Coax Splitters. TWO!

After further testing, I realize that one of the Coax Splitters is only functioning halfway, and one of them is outdated for my internet speed.

Keep in mind, I've had Charter Service Repairmen out to my house 3 times, and none of THEM caught this...

A quick stop to my local CompUSA (well, not quick, I do live in the boondocks), 12.99 (Yeah, yeah, they're overpriced) and the cost of tacos along the way (I loves the little tacos...I love them gooooood) my internet is stable, and STRONG. :D

And that's all today in the life of Yomi! XD

I play wirelessly on my labtop and recently ive been d/cing a lot. Turns out, my wireless router was getting to hot, so I keep a fan on it. No more problems now.

-_- workers not catching that -_-

grats on getting it up and running solo :P

can't believe they didn't catch that the second if not the third time they were out there. But heh at least you know you can fix it yourself next time

Yay for Tacos!

Ok it's a fried corn tortilla, filled with differnt things (since I'm a pascadarien, this means I don't eat meat that isn't fish) I like mine with beans, cheese, salsa, sour cream, tabasco, lettuce, tomatos, friend onions and other random goodies, they're chrunchy and good.

By holding an upper level management position in the telcom field, I think I can shed some light on that...................................................................

MOST FIELD TECHS ARE MORONS OR JUST REAL DAMN LAZY!!

I listen to these goons piss and moan all day about how difficult their jobs are and how underappreciated they feel, yet they have to return to a customers house to re-terminate a snap-and-seal end, because they didnt properly strip away the mesh inside the coax and now the customers reception is all fuzzy.
I used to be in the field doing this and I can tell you one thing, indoor
residential cable troubleshooting can be done by striped-assed baboons.
Never take what they tell you to be the truth. Always check your terminated ends and be aware of where your feed box is located outside on the telephone pole. These rubes will often mix the feeds on the pole and screw up your service when trying to repair your neighbors.
Also keep track of every hour that your service is down or messed up and demand your bill to be retro'd, legally, they have to, but they will never, ever mention anything about it.

A few things to look for:

1) the copper conductor coming out of the cable end should never be more than an 1/8" out.
2) check for line - couplings along the cable path inside and out, especially out, any outdoor coupling is supposed to be sealed weather tight, this is rarely the case. Just a seasons worth of corrosion can kill your service.
3) check your cable ends for what looks like "steel thread" coming out somewhere on the connector. if you see this, the cable termination is bad.
4) tell the tech you want a continuity test from pole to splitter, if it falls below certain parameters, they have to run a whole new line.

hope this helps any of you cable users out there ^^
