So with many things going on at this point, we've been sadly pushing away some major things that should really be looked at. So I guess I'll start with visitor messages.

As it stands currently, you users have the ability to edit and delete messages in your visitor box at will. This raises a slight problem though. We have received many reported visitor messages and people waited for us to PM them back and let them know that we are unsure of how to exactly enforce something when a user can easily delete it.

In this thread, I would just like to see a very civil discussions regarding the visitor messages and what the users of QCDN would like to have for options.

Thoughts? Discussions?

Regards,

Mir

Edit - Please realize that we have a slightly small amount of options to work with on our end currently. While it would be nice to be able to just edit instead of delete, or delete instead of edit, it doesn't look like it would be an option at this current time.

Maybe only have visitor message viewable by friends. Im guessing most reports are from users that dont like or arent liked by certain people, and they find those offensive posts on peoples profiles just by browsing.

Making it Friend Only would eliminate that problem. As for "removing the method which two users can argue," if that bothers someone, there are PM's.

I would like to the VMs to function just like any post (outside from FB). The same rules should apply. I like Ruffy's suggestion as well.

The way I see it is, if someone can't let something go or is the stalker variety like some folks, they're going to find a way to say what it is they want to say. If it's not through Rep or pm, it'll be visitor messages. I think visitor messages should be open to whoever wants to leave one. But is there a possibility of having a PM be attached to it with the Visitor message text? I'm thinking kind of how facebook handles when someone leaves a message on your wall and you receive an e-mail with the text of the message enclosed. That way if something offending is put there, you could delete the message from your visitor page yourself, but you would have something to take to the mods to have the harassment dealt with. And maybe have the option to turn those PM notifications off if you so choose?

I'm not sure about whether or not these things are possible with vb or even necessary, but if preventing abuse of the system is what you're looking for and it can be done, I think it would curb any problems.

I think Visitor messages should be unchecked barring extreme circumstances. The user can delete, but if a request is sent to Admins to look into it, they can view the deleted comments anyway (if I'm not mistaken) to decide if it warrants harassment.

Voted Option 1.

If someone repeatedly does it, ignore keeps them off visitor message right?

If you have somone on ignore, you can still see they left you a message, you just can't see the content of the message. Instead, you see a message like this: This message is hidden because <InsertUserNameHere> is on your ignore list. Other users visiting your page can see the content of the message still (unless the person who posted the VM is on that user's ignore list).

I really like this idea. Alot.

It'd add a new level of interactivity (likewise, an incentive to actually make use of it) to the Friend List. Currently, I have no use for the Friends List aside from an Address Book function for PMs.

Perhaps this?

1.) Automatically accept inbound messages from your Friends List.
2.) Automatically deny inbound messages from your Ignore List.
3.) Verification of acceptance for inbound messages from people *not* on your Friends List. -> "You have received a visitor message from "x" on "DATE". (Message Text). Would you like to add this to your visitor message box?

As long as it don't stop me flirting with you Miros.

If the owner of the visitor page is allowed to edit and delete messages on the page, then I don't see a problem. They could report forbidden content ("Hey User, check out this google maps screenshot of your house, I'll be there tonight"), but other than that they shouldn't really need moderation.

my thought as well vote 1 but some punishment should be handled for ongoing harassment.

You missed the part of the thread where we are limited in options for what we can do. ;p

Seemed within the scope of options. Very well, limitations taken into account, let it be a free-for-all and trust that people would have enough common sense to remove offending messages.

The key phrase there is "trust that people would have common sense", though, and we know how that goes.

I'm just not sure we can actually have a message sent to the user when someone out of his friends list sends him a message.

Oh, well that suggestion was pretty much a "if this can be done" thing. Are the first two feasible in any form?

Not sure about the ignore one. But there may possibly be a setting to put in place that only friends can post in your profile.

To be fair, the second of my suggestions wouldn't really work without the third in place XD.
