What the hell is this number? Ive got calls from this one a lot, and I dont know wtf it is. When I do answer, though, there is just a slow beeping noise in the background... So it sounds automated.

Anyone have any idea what this number is?

I have no idea. I kept getting similar calls for a while from a 000-000-0000 number, but after a few days of ignoring it, it went away.

Don't answer. If it's important, they'll leave a message.

Might be a fax machine, though I think those'd leave actual numbers...

At first, I thought they were Skype numbers... Because theyre kind of similar.

Indubitably an IPT-generated call. There's a website you can go to that all you have to do is enter the number you want to call, and the number you want to appear as the Caller ID (may also be called the Calling Party Transform Mask).

It dials the number using VoIP, text-to-speech translates a message entered by the user, and the person receiving this call is none the wiser.

I called my buddy via this route to tell him he's a fag. He had no idea who it was until I told him a week later.

wish I would actually get someone talking, text-to-speech or not, instead of beeps. Nothing at all is said, just a couple beeps (sometimes more than others) and then it hangs up.

Hahahahaha, that's awesome.

How long have you been getting the calls, Ruff? Mine went away after a little while.

Yea, pretty sure its the mothership trying to get ahold of the "probe".

Well, I got like 3 in one night several weeks ago, and just got another this morning.

I think it is what Cmdrfly says, someone trying to prank me. But, Im not receiving any kind of message at all, lol. Just beeps, then a hang up...

I answered a call from 999-999-9999 once. It was Blockbuster telling me I had late movies lol

Means someone is useing an Internet Phone to call you.

Telemarketing companies can mask their number like that. Usually when I see that on my caller ID and pick up, it's a prerecorded message with opt out instructions at the end. Maybe you're supposed to end up in a calling queue, so that's why you hear the beeping, but after a while it kinda 'times out' and just takes you off the line.

If it's really annoying you, you can call your phone company...

True also collection companies use it to at least get to voicemails where a person might have restricted incoming blocked calls this way by showing a 000-000-0000 or 999-999-9999 it shows as an unblocked call and the colector can get to phone voice mail and leave a message

I got a 000-000-0000 once, was my sisters boyfriend, calling from mexico.

So apparently, Im still getting these calls, but the most recent one left their number unblocked.

1-514-958-0001

Did a search on the area code, and apparently its a call from southern quebec... In montreal.

Definitely not a prank call, I dont believe. But perhaps one of those calls that try to keep you on the line so youre charged a buttload of money?
