Find an old version of your video driver, and install it. When it says "Wait up, this driver is older than your current one, are you sure?" click yes. And god I hate TSR drivers, how often do I need to change my setting that you feel the need to put that damn icon in my taskbar?

You should not install old drivers over new without uninstalling the current driver whatever version it is, otherwise complications will occur. Always uninstall drivers first when downgrading the version.

It is NOT your drivers in this case.
This tends to happen to POL viewer when the following happens:
Game Crashes -> windows freezes/corrupt/or forces a reboot -> re-boot wants to run scandisk -> you skip it.

To repair that, is quite simple.
Uninstall PoL Viewer (viewer Only!! not FFXI or its addons0.
Re-install off disk -> Let it update.

should be fine after that.

hmm, just re-read your OP. Still working on my coffee -.-
I would revert back to your origional drivers, but only If after un-installing/re-installing viewer you have the same problem. I don't think it is however, the viewer seems to corrupt fairly easily.

im not even on your server. But it is your drivers if that doesnt work look at your resolution and then look at you color change resolution to desired and color to 32Bit color, after that if it still persists reload your driver and try again

Hmm... thanks all for the suggestions!

Before i uninstall and install a older driver version... Malion, i think i heard someone say something like that before with my issue. Could you please elaborate -- i didn't quite get whatcha said.

I had a 5200.. before I had enough and bought the 6800... I had many many probs with that card...
what you'll need to do .. is Uninstall all applications and drivers associated to that card.. but before you do go and find the "recommended" download of driver first and place it on your desktop.. SE even goes a step beyond and gives the version they recommend..

lol i remember when my video card did this... i fixed it too :)

3DA (look on the Windower Support Forums for my stickied thread) and/or lowering your desktop resolution (or second monitor) will do the trick.

lol im not nvida though >_>;

I think he ment that for me.

But I'm still doing the FFXI update and it'll prbably finish sometime late tonight. I installed the 66.93 driver version, but I'm going to restart the computer after the update and a defrag. I sure as hell hope it works.

Also thanks for your help/suggestions. :)

The problem is purely a video card problem of Transform and Lighting (TnL). It's the Transform part of it that's giving you problems.

Two things cause TnL problems: lack of memory, or lack of functionality. Sometimes lack of video memory causes lack of functionality, which is why i suggested lowering the resolution or disabling a second monitor to see if it helps.

SE updated the rendering engine a while back, and they upgraded it for POL too. That's when i had the same problems you have, and when they updated it again, I couldn't play at all; POL gave a TnL error.

I found 3DA trying to fix it after I couldn't play. Look here for the products of my research. It fixed all of those problems.

Anyways, good luck, i hope it works for you. I don't see why it shouldn't actually.

edit: link fixed

Actually, this is probably a problem involving the "Hardware Accelleration" settings. Try this:

Right click on desktop > Properties
This will bring up the Display Properties window.
Go to the Settings tab, click advanced. This will bring up a new window.
Click the "Troubleshoot" tab and turn the slider for Hardware Acceleration all the way up if it is at all turned down.
This should help fix this problem, but if it doesn't you may have problems with your video card and/or drivers.

actually, if that does fix the problem, it shows there IS a problem with either your hardware (video adaptor) or your system.

best of luck, but good pointing that out Taruothar. That is most commonly used on shared memory video.. PCI or onboard video.

Will the problem effect the FFXI graphics too if POL is still choppy?
