We all need extra gil right? I am always looking for gil-making ideas.
I have always heard gardening is good money but never believed it.
Now I can hardly believe I am writing this post.

I found a guide for gardening; several in fact. In one particular guide,
they wanted to show the reader how to make ICE ORE.

Their suggestions:
1) Buy 10 Porcelin Flowerpots (60k / 6k ea. our server)
2) Buy a stack of Tree Saplings (80k our server)
3) Day 1 - Plant on ICE DAY
4) Day 7 - 1st feeding ICE CRYSTAL on (ice day? / moon phase / lucky socks?)
5) Day 14 - SAME AS DAY 7
6) Day 21 - Harvest (on ICE day, when your dog pukes, and simpsons are on tv.)
(CHECK PLANTS ONCE OR TWICE A DAY)

TOO MUCH HASSLE to catch the friggen moon phases etc.
I spent 140k on the materials from steps one and two. On step three, plant on ICE
DAY, I got lazy and planted on Watersday. That was my last bit of laziness.
I already ruined it. I checked the AH prices of ICE ORE in Jueno... (from memory
I THINK it was 20-60k each....can't remember). But I remembered I planted on
waters day so I thought "Is there such thing as WATER ORE?". There was, and it
goes from 100-120k each.

So my modified recipe:
1) Buy 10 Porcelin Flowerpots (60k / 6k ea. our server)
2) Buy a stack of Tree Saplings (80k our server)
3) Day 1 - Plant on WATERS DAY :oops:
4) Day 7 - 1st feeding WATER CRYSTAL on (fires day...was accident and doesn’t matter.)
5) Day 14 - 2nd feeding WATER CRYSTAL on (who cares what day...moon phase?)
6) Day 21 - Harvest WATERS DAY
(I ONLY CHECKED PLANTS ONCE A DAY)

Yield: (114)Mythril Leaves=95k gil , (2)Water Ores (YAY)= 240k , (3)Fire Clusters=9k gil

So I spent 140K, Yield=341k, Total Profit=201k

Out of the 201k, I will buy another stack of tree saplings for 80k and do it all over again!


This was my first time ever gardening. I am NO EXPERT. Any tips? post please and I thank you. If this helps you make money, you are welcome.

Very cool. I have been meaning to get into this, and I have a ton of stuff saved up already to do it. But I have so much gear and other crap that I'll probably need a couple more mules to do it, atm.

I promise to post results when I get around to it.

How long did this take from planting to harvesting?

The first time I tried some big-money gardening, it was with just 1 pot. About 3 weeks later, I had grown myself a fire ore. BAM, ~200k in my pocket. So, I figure I'll expand the operation a bit, right? I've gotten nothing but sticks of cinnamon ever since... -_-
 
Bastok mule...
10 brass pots...
10 Vegetable or Herb seeds...
10 Water crystals...

That ought to produce a lot of fire crystals.
 
Takes longer..but if you're willing to wait...

1. Don't necessarily need porcelain..btw..Pikko has gotten ores from cheaper pots..

2. Grow you're own saplings from farmed cuttings. I'm working on this now - I'll let you know how it goes. I tend to be cheap and patient - so maybe that's why this works for me(the farming for stuff thing not the aility to grow saplings thing --)

3. If you're wondering about how to grow saplings...look it up or../sigh..I'll tell ya - just find me in game.

To answer and respond to several at once:


It took me the usual 3 weeks (21 days).
My goal was big money Elemental Ore.
I am patient enough to tend to my garden
every day. I forgot to mention that I lost
patience and harvested on day 20.

If I waited til day 21, who knows it that
affects results or not?

Given what I just tried for water, based
off Ice recipe, I believe you can substitute
the word for any element (WIND) instead
of water and it may work.

It was my first time.
I will buy a new stack of saplings and attempt
one of the elemental ores again.
aside from my casual comments here, check back
in 3 weeks for my next batch update and results.
 
kk on Dec. 4th, I planted 10 more Saplings
on Windsday. I have no clue what elemental ore
is used for; only that is MAY be crafting and is
expensive.

I checked the AH for the most pricey Ore and
Wind seems to be it so far.

Sooooooo.... on about xmas, I will harvest and
report the harvest in here.

getting closer! I'll post results very soon. Over the weekend, I have already made my second feeding. I'm very excited because I've heard
the prices went up.
 
Nice, I tried gardening myself a few times, but get tired of waiting :) But here is something I tried once, so might not be accurate, but still worth a shot I think.

Remember the elemental compass we discussed once? Well, after checking some sites, I found that seeds and pots are also associated with elements. So I put 8 porcelain pot in all directions (S, N, NE, etc) and planted the same seed in all of them. I fed them dark crystal twice, all at the same time. Well, the pot that was in the direction of the element associated with the CRYSTAL (in that case, North) not the pot, the day planted, the day harvested or the seed, produced the best results in the most quantities (in that cas, darksteel nuggets).

So again, this was a one time experience, but just like synthesis, maybe putting your pot in the direction of the crystal you will feed influences the results.
 
interesting. would like to know more about the directions and crystals.
currently, my layout is 5 in a row on the right and 5 on the left as you
entere the mog house. (for looks) didn't know there was even more to it.
 
Maybe no one ever realized this, or paid attention, but the NPCs that mention gardening say your results will be gimped after using more than, I believe, 6 pots. Might be more, might be less, but I do know that it would probably be better to just stick with however many those kids suggest. (MH Quests so you can use back alleys)
 
ok I've been gardening for about 4 months now so I'll go ahead and throw in what I know.

To grow and ore from a sapling: The best day to plant and harvest is on darksday, nourish with crystal of your choice on corresponding day (Ice crystal on Iceday, Dark Crystal on Darksday, etc). be sure to check at least once a day though it's better to do it more then once, this is why I generally garden with my mule incase I don't feel like going back to town with my main. I also only plant 3 Saps at a time, with only three pots out.

To grow a Tree Sapling from a Tree Cutting: just plant the cutting and check it everyday, no nourishing with crystals needed. I do recall planting on a certain day and harvesting on a certain day will get you more then one, but I personally never do that since I use 10 pots and end up with about 15 saps no matter what I do.

Personal preferences of mine: I generally go for Dark ores because if you somehow miss one feeding of Darkcrystals you'll end up with light clusters (last time this happend I got about 3). And when you do everything right the chance of an Ore is still low, and perikos is what I alway end up with, they go for about 15k a stack in sandy last I check.

Now I'm not an expert at gardening, this is just some information I've gathered over time, Ores do sell fast for lots of money mainly cause they are used to make something which are used to make the elemental staffs. I've only gotten 2 ores in my time but hey, beggars can't be choosers, hope all this information helps everyone out.

This is what I do, but I am definitely gonna try Duffman's recipe also.

Farm tree cuttings in Zi'Tah (or where ever)
Plant them and as already stated don't feed them
Harvesting lots you tree saplings
Plant tree saplings
Feed saplings light crystal on Darksday 2 times

You'll harvest Gold Leafs (about 12-20 per plant) which you sell at the NPC in the Nation where you have the highest fame. If you have hero status fame anywhere, you'll lot 1285 per gold leaf and no AH or competition to worry about.

This takes about a rl month from start to finish.
 
Gardening Crap

Yo wut up peepz, I decided to post my info about the whole gardening sapps and all. All though I am new to this whole thing I thought wut the hell and put my 2 cents in as well. Keep in mind this is all done using porceline pots which run ya about 5-6k or so. Cuttings is the way I went instead of buying the sapps and waiting was my deal, lol. Here goes:

time: 4:00am (couldnt sleep, lol)

Hope that this some wut helps, in wut way dunno but for those cookers there something that you have looking forward to in Windy leaves and cinnamon sticks, LMAO XD
