1up New exclusive FFXI Interview

offcourse its not going to be random abilities, and I never said they were.

SE's going to give them one, maybe two, from each mob type or so I believe. And I don't think we'll get Spike Flail, cause I can't see a tarutaru suddenly grow a tail 10x its own size to flail the mob with. Although it would be a wonderfull sight.

For all we know they may not get any abilities from 1 mob type but 3-4 from another.

oh, I'm sure they will get atleast 1 ability from each mob family, except for maybe Wyrms.

I can think of 2 already implemented from the plantoid family...

I was talking about mob types, they'll probably add one from each mob type. Except for maybe some that have almost identical ones.

All I know is that I gotta at least try BLU out just for the fact to do the gob bomb ;)

I know, I meant type, which I corrected. Of course they'll get multiple abilities of mob families. But I don't see all mob types giving 1-2 abilities.

During the open forum developer panel, a number of interesting questions were asked and answered, which should put to rest a lot of the theories running wild in FFXI. A Thief getting the final kill-shot on a mob has zero effect on whether you get the desired drops or not. A Thief merely needs to be in the party in order for Treasure Hunter to take effect. Utsusemi: San (a.k.a. Utsusemi: Three) is under consideration for Ninjas.

I guess all HNM LS can stop rushing to get there Thiefs in for the last kill.

well, I said 1-2, meaning one, but in some cases maybe 2 (as with gobs/moblins, which are basically the same only moblins have extra abilities)

As an example of already proved ones;

Bubble Shower (STR down) - crabs
??? (VIT down) - mandragoras
1000 needles (AoE damage) - cactar
Spider Web (AoE slow) - spiders
Bomb Toss (AoE fire) - goblins/moblins
Methane Breath (frontal fire + virus) - raptors

Others I can imagine are:
Sound Vacuum (frontal silence) - cockatrice
??? (AoE stun) - moblins (I know what its called... just can't rememeber it atm >.<)
Healing Breeze (Curaga) - dhalmel
??? (Evasion Boost) - Lizard
??? (frontal paralyze) - funguars
??? (AoE blind) - rabbits

I can think of a few mob types that their abilities wouldn't really be worth it, cardians for example, Bludgeon and Deal Out are the only abilities that they have. And it's frypan, the frontal aoe stun from moblins Uzor :P,, which I think was shown on 1 of the videos, and the thing people think is bomb toss is actually the shroom attack, shakeshroom? Not sure of the exact name. Oh, and mandy vit down attack, Wild Oats? Secretion evasion boost for Lizards, spore aoe paralyze from funguars, and duststorm aoe blind from rabbits. And actually, BLU may not get support/healing abilities, SE has only showed offensive/enfeebling abilities, maybe that's all BLU will get.

Is it just me, or does that puppet look like a slight breeze would kill it?

I was thinking that too, but I so hope they'll get Healing Breeze cause it kicks so much ass T.T

Oh, and btw. Shakeshroom or w/e its called don't explode like Bomb Toss do, so I'd have to say its Bomb Toss :P

That'd be nice, but maybe the sub of choice will be WHM so they end up as SMN 2.0, really depends on what they get, and what recast timers are.
Also, how great would Bomb Toss be anyways, potential to kill yourself and pt? Lol no thanks, I'll leave that option to Corsairs :P

I would guess BLM is sub of choice for increased damage though :P

Or maybe RDM

Really depends, least I have blm/whm/rdm lvled heh. But having the option to help status cure, along with regular Cure, if BLU doesn't have any support/healing abilities, would be great from WHM sub. And also if they do learn say Healing Breeze, divine seal+healing breeze :P

what makes you think it stacks? :P

depends on their sword skill though... I can imagine BLU/NIN being rather good if they have high weapon skill <.<; Also depends on the mana costs and effectivness of the spells though...

They'll still rush to get THF in, it's not exactly a stellar job on damaging HNMs.

However, other shells don't have to wait for-ev-er while everyone turns thier back and the THF plinks away the remaining HP. They never did have to, actually, but you know, idiots who don't know how the mechanics work believe what they hear.

The people asking questions at the Q&A were dumb "Hur hur are mithra tan or furry?"

I'd ask serious questions, like why Hexa Strike is missing from the Fellow's club weaponskill repertoire, and if Blue Mage will be getting thier own unique weapon. Scimitars aren't the only class of curved blades, and due to the heavy persian-influence on this expansion, theres a great chance that the Blue Mage will actually use Shamshirs, a persian weapon. And seeing as how there are Zero Shamshirs in the game currently, it'll be a good idea to make it it's own class, so that Blue Mage isn't told to sit the fuck down and rest, as the weapon skills could be effective damage, and return MP to the Blue Mage.

BLU/NIN for solo, but in a pt, I know SE is trying to get jobs, such as WAR away from subbing NIN in pts. And I think they'll end up exactly like RDM, meleeing til some lvl, in this case 51+, then using elemental staves for the enhancement it gives to their "magics". But who knows, the job could also be solo based :p

I have a feeling that BLU will be very versitile in SJs. I can see a BLU/THF being pretty handy around lvl +60

Depends if they lean more towards melee or magic, and I can't stop but see it being more magic based judging from the "actual" past BLU's, ie the 1's with defined jobs, so a mage subjob would be the best bet. But for all we know, gogo BLU/BST solo! :P

well, some WS's have to be melee-based, so I'm guessing they will get Smite of Rage from Weapons.

Oh, and another confirmed one is the AoE drain from skeletons. I can see Blue Mage being very good in Ballista.

They aren't weaponskills, Uzor. They're magic.
