Actually it can help the economy in different industries if the dollar is weaker.
For example: Tourism. A weaker dollar attracts foreign tourists (in this case Europeans and British) to plan more vacations in various US areas. Disney World seemed too expensive when the dollar was stronger but now maybe is the best time to lock in airline tickets, reserve a resort right in Disney, and maybe take in a day at Universal Studios.
People take advantage of buying more US imports when certain products are more affordable in price.
And most econmists would probably talk about the reserves. It is not a good idea to have one currency so weak. Usually, they will tamper with the reserve requirements of how many different currencies they can hold by either buying back a particular currency or freely distribute more of the currency.
While the current economic situation may not be desirable (rising inflation, assumptions the FED might try to slow down the economy too quickly), there are some good things to it.
