Ive been trying to get Xbox live going for about 5 hours now. I just got a router in hopes i would be able to play it online without hindering the use of my PC but i cannot get it to work. All the instructions I keep getting say i need Windows media connect which i have. its not in the contral bar where its supposed to be as discribed on the help websites though. I couldnt find the first version, so i have to use the windows media player 11(which i made sure was properly set for connecting to a xbox) but no matter what i try, my xbox wont recognise my computer, help me out.

Edit: if it helps im stuck on the DNS part of the test, I dont know why it wont work...

Here is what you do...you grab your xbox with a firm grip, you walk to the nearest window or door, open it, and proceed to throw it as far as possible. I hate microsoft, but i own a 360 >.>

Anyway I never even touched my computer when getting on live, so I dunno what to tell you ; ;

you need to reset your connection on your 360 , meaning set up a new one in network settings.
Media connect has NOTHING to do with xbox live, That and WMP 11 is only for use in playing videos and streaming other things off your PC, Unplug your router and modem. wait 5 minutes for the connection to reset, make your new connection on 360 and u should be fine.

It's the modem. (For clearity let us seperate modems from routers)

Modems have 2 modes that you can toggle with the use of you're PC. These 2 settings are.

-Brige mode
-Router Mode

EDIT: You're console will not work if the modem is set to bridge mode.

For most modems it can be located at the modems site address, and with the use of the ID you're internet service provider supplied you with, and you're password, you should be able to access the "modems settings".
Seeing on how you bought the router, it's safe to assume you're modem is set to Bridge mode by default.

The Solution

-What needs to be done: After accessing the modems options online, you'll have a chance to set the modem to "Router Mode"

You can read about accessing the modems options in the users manual. If that is not possible, call you're ISP for tech support on how to switch you're modem to router mode. (Remember,"Modem" not the Router)

Once the deed is done, you're XboX and all you're consoles for that matter, needn't under go connection tests, as it would ace them.

Happy gaming.
