$400 40 gig rumor.

Kind of sad that all the MGS4 going multiplatform rumors are going to cost it sales even though they're based completely on either lies or pure speculation.
Or it's just pattern recognition. The other MGS games were released on the xbox later on, so there's no real reason to think that the developer couldn't do the same after a year; especially if the game doesn't boost the PS3's sales as much as they hope it will.

I don't really care either way, since I wouldn't buy the game anyways, but the chances of MGS4 ever appearing on 360 definitely aren't zero.

I believe MGS will be eventually released on the 360 but not for awhile. And yeah Fire, just the rumors will hurt the sales because alot of people will hold out for a 360 version that might never come.

As far as the movie talk. I kinda liked Transformers and I don't know why. I hate Michael Bay for one thing...but for some reason I enjoyed this movie and I laughed alot. I liked Pirates 1 and 2 ok, but I felt like walking out on the 3rd...same with Spiderman 3.

As far as top grossing films this summer...yeah Transformers wasn't close to Pirates or Spiderman.

Nothing not published by Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft has zero chances of becoming multiplatform. It's however one of the more technically impressive looking PS3 games. It's one thing to be a great looking game like GRAW 2 or The Darkness, if you actually look at all the gameplay mechanics involved in MGS: 4, I'd have to say it's not really rivaled by anything else.

Not saying it 100% couldn't be done on the 360, just saying nothing like it has. Nor has anything like it been on the PS3 for that matter. Throw in the disc capacity it needs and it starts to look less and less likely. They should just write up an exclusivity contract(if there isn't one already) and make it public so people holding out for a port don't miss out.

Honestly, I will buy a system for just one game. For the PS2 that was FF10. For the Gamecube it was Smash Bros Melee. Ironically for PS3 I look at FF13 and Wii I look at Smash Bros Brawl.

Except MGS3 never made it to the XBOX or 360, and neither did the rerelease Subsistence. And Twinsnakes was GC only, only MGS that appeared on the XBOX was Sons of Liberty in the form of Substance. Least I think, idr shit half the time.

Except the other MGS games of course; there's new features, but the basic game play is still the same as the last 3 games.

The only reason space would be a major issue is because Kojima is just wasting the space becuase he doesn't want to compress anything. With a size of 50 gigs, he doesn't have to think about efficiency at all; it's a bad habit, but something that wouldn't be too hard to fix to make MGS4 compatible for 360.

Hell, make it an HD-DVD game to boost sales of the HD-DVD attachment. Microsoft doesn't have a problem letting companies throw those HD-required stickers on their games, so it wouldn't be too big of a change to required the HD-DVD drive.

Then you have too much money and not much sense and you can't possibly think that you are in any way representative of the average gamer. 99.9% of gamers either have their parents buy the console or they have to work for the money. They can't just throw down a bunch of money for a single game, there needs to be some actual bang for your buck and one game, no matter what the game is, doesn't cut it.

MGS4 isn't going to Xbox. This is the confirmed last game of the series, it won't go over. And MGS3 didn't go to Xbox either.

Well the difference of buying a new system for one game is a little different now. Wages haven't gone up that much since the PS2 came out compared to the next gen consoles now and technology they use. I bought a PS2 at first because of FFX but the system cost me 199.99...compared to now 399.99 and 499.99...thats a big difference lol.

I also knew at the time that (xbox wasn't a player at the time) nintendo wasn't gonna get any 3rd part support SO I KNEW I would get my money's worth with more games for the PS2 eventually.

I can't say that now with the PS3. Xbox now has a bigger library of good exclusives and the same platformers.

Hehe, wages have actually gone up slightly :P but ya.. if you want to play that game then the... what.. I think Super Nintendo? Was the most expensive system proportional to its time.. or was it another system.. hmm.. I can't remember. But, one of the really old systems was, proportionally, the most expensive system of all time XD something like.. 1100 dollars if it was in today's value of the dollar.

Thing is, PS3 is still getting third party support (just slow at coming out), 360 has plenty of third party support too (since it was released first and most were eager to create next gen games) and the Wii has a lot of third party interest though I've not heard too much that interests me personally.. most Wii games I hear anything of are Nintendo first party *shrugs*

I wish the games I'm interested in were out now T.T the ones I'm most interested in (on any system, doesn't matter) aren't gonna be out for a bit. Only a few are out now that I truly want to play like Metroid Prime 3, that game is fun :D friend has it, sooo makes better use of Wii controls than any game to date, I think, it's just a bit short.

Anything could fit on anything with enough compression, just a question of what Kojima would be willing to put out with his name on it.

I think we both know that won't happen, and if it did, so many previous arguments about the 360 and PS3 should be retconned with PS3 as the victor.

$400, $600, $250, whatever is not all that much money compared to the thousands of hours you'll wind up getting out of a game system. I'll buy a system for 1 game but it's not like I only end up playing one game. I buy a system, try a game for it from a series I never played, potentially get interested in a new series, for example Ninja Gaiden Sigma has made me interested in Ninja Gaiden and then Xbox 360 for NG2.

$1.25k is a shit ton of money for any college student/high school student, especially considering what other expenses there are for them. What kind of college are you in where you actually have time to get that thousands of hours of gameplay out of a system, while still working/learning?

Not realistic at all. You'll have to have a pretty spesfic situation to make that work out.

at bolded: And what college student has the equipment to use it at a decent capacity.

My tuition and board is around $4,300 a semester and if I'm not finished in December I'll be taking 1 class next semester while working.

As for thousands of hours, we aren't talking about in a year but in the lifespan of a system. Hell just today me and my roomates played an hour of N64.

Not even considering the hours of entertainment I'll get out of the blu-ray.

As far as free time, I don't want to brag but I don't need to study to get good grades... and I can shoot a 15 page paper out in a night. Hell over the summer I banged out 16 credits, hung out with my friends from home constantly, screwed around arguing with people on the internet and had plenty of time to play tons of Rainbow 6 and Warhawk beta.

If time and money are an issue, buy a Wii.

It's the cheapest new system, it'll have plenty of games in its lifespan and you can play it in short bursts of time. It's the perfect system for someone who can't devote the resources to a more hardcore gaming experience.

For me the PS3 was the first pick because I wanted a media center, a high def player and Final Fantasy 13. I'm a FF loyalist. I saw the damn Spirits within movie in theaters. I played all the old nintendo games. I got all the PS 1 games, the tactics games, the PS2 games. I own a real Buster Sword. Hell I got the FFXI game... first day on PC, and then got it for my PS2 first day that version came out, with the harddrive I bought for the PS2 ONLY TO PLAY FFXI.

I would be a very casual gamer if not for Final Fantasy. I would have stopped caring about video games after N64.

FF10 and the PS2 are what kept me interested.

More wild and inaccurate assumptions. You think that the only reason I'm not interested in the game is because you think I haven't seen the video. I have, and I'm still not interested. I posted about this over a year ago, I don't give a shit about MGS4; I'm not going to buy it, period, regardless of console it comes out on. The only way I would play the game is I might, MIGHT borrow it from a friend if they get it, but even then it would be at least months after the release that I even thought about it.

As for the gameplay, it's the same basic game. You still stealth your way around and avoid fighting when you can. There's new ways to do it(stealth suit and barrel), but it's still the same basic game; unless you count the ability to "roll around" as some new revolutionary gameplay" that no one has ever done before.

So he's wasting gigabytes of space because he refuses to use lossless compression?

You're still thinking that you fit the average profile of a gamer, when very very few have a bunch of money to throw down on a "might be good later on" purchase.

You don't have to be a fan of Metal Gear just cause it's popular. I'm not a fan of Halo, or, a less biased example... I'm not a fan of Devil May Cry.

It's not the gameplay that's completely new, rather the technical features that are apparent by watching the gameplay in action. From a developer's point of view, this is not an easy game to create. This is more than just Metal Gear Solid 1-3 with high def graphics, if you want to look at the actual complexity of everything that is happening simultaneously, and the flexibility of the engine that can instantly switch from different modes. It's just not another coat of paint, it's a real evolution, taking a game that felt very 2-dimensional as it was limited by current technology and just letting it explode into its full potential.

If you think compressing the sound will bring a 50 gig game down to 7 gigs.

You're still thinking that you fit the average profile of a gamer, when very very few have a bunch of money to throw down on a "might be good later on" purchase.

Of course I don't. The average gamer isn't an early adopter, I am. The average gamer waits years until the system has a ton of games out, a lot of the early titles discounted and a substantial price drop has occurred. The average consumer doesn't own multiple "current gen" consoles. The average consumer doesn't have a PC that can run 360 ports and make the 360 version look like a little bitch.

Who gives a fuck about the average consumer. Didn't we already go over average people? They connect their 360 to their high def plasma with their standard def plugs. I don't give a shit. My only concern is my own personal experience.

I know people have opinions, but I honestly don't know how you can't be impressed by the trailers of MGS4, esp. the gameplay video. Simply amazing.

Amazing new gameplay

All cameras(If I see someone complain about camera, I will kill them)

Fugging EPIC storyline. In fact imo the MGS series has the best storyline in any game/game series

Great Graphics.

Awesome Characters

New Environmental features(Dust blowing when building collapses, people interactions)

I'm looking at a 10/10 game right here.

EDIT: Adam from X-Play says that "you will play this game, even if you have not played previous MGS titles."

I might get a 40gig-er, you can still upgrade them to a higher gig with a laptop hdd right? And whoever has PS2 games, already has a PS2 so whaatever, eventually it will be like the PSX is now, even though it had some of the best games ever, its hardly played anymore. Im in need of Little Big Planet and some SE games.
Wasn't a big fan of Metal Gear, but it does look nice.

LOL. Citing X-Play as a remotely credible source when it comes to games?

The story line might be epic if you had any clue what the fuck was going on. With each game they answer a few incredibly minor questions while bringing up several major ones; this one will likely be no different. If they finally reveal what the actual plot is, that might be enough to pique my interest enough to actually play the game; but I'm not holding my breath.

The games are fairly fun, they just don't interest me.

I'd be willing to bet that they didn't stop at not compressing just the sound. They have more space than they could legitimately need, so why bother with efficiency, with trying to not waste the space just because it's there?

Of course I don't. The average gamer isn't an early adopter, I am. By your own logic, MGS4 won't sell a ton of consoles. The early adopters already have theirs, and the average gamers are going to wait until there's more reason to buy the console. The average gamers will pick it up in a year or two when the PS3 gets enough to make it worth buying; but they're not going to rush out and buy a PS3 just for a single game.

Have you seen the online play, Baja? That's coming with MGS4? That looks impressive. Specially since you can help lift your ally (it seems) up onto things and use various amusing map features. It's got features I've NEVER seen in online play (yet).
