As of recently its been brought to my attention that 478 delay on some spears breaks the 6 hit setup possibility. Does that mean that the Thallasacrat+1 is marginally inferior to its normal counterpart? and recently we got a new spear in the update
"Zaide" DPS:1167 DMG:93 DLY:478 Attack +8 Enhances Beast killer
Vs.Beasts Crit hit rate+7% LVL:72 DRG
Im not sure and yes ill admit im terrible at math, but does this spears dmg capability outweigh the fact that it breaks the 6 hit setup? How much more TP would we need to get this thing to 6 hit status, and would you use this even though it breaks 6 hit standards?
It doesn't mean that the +1 is worse it just means in order for it to be better you need to have gear that works with it.
For a true 6 hit(doesn't require extra tp from multi hit ws) set up with a 492 delay polearm you need 26 total store tp, that's 15 from /sam and 11 from gear, many drgs use askar or aurum bodies which, combined with rajas and brutal make this very easy to attain.
For a 478 delay polearm a true 6 hit set up needs 30 total store tp so now you need 15 from gear, to do this the best set up I can think of top of my head would be like aurum body, rajas, brutal, Ecphoria Ring, Chivalrous Chain.
However what I do is I make my normal set which expects all hits on ws to hit(they usually do) then macro in extra store tp for when they don't. Usually a 492 delay polearm (assuming drakesbane) only needs 22 store tp to get to 100 which is /sam +rajas + brutal + ecphoria. To make a similar set for a 478 delay polearm you typically only need 25 store tp, which is just /sam + rajas + askar or aurum (but please still use brutal lol), but you would want extra store tp you can macro in if one or more of the hits misses or colibri steals tp or something.
against beasts this new polearm is pretty much ideal, a +7% crit rate is really nice. Especially if you're not /sam(there are many situations you wouldn't be) or you already use aurum body where having a 478 delay polearm can really benefit you because you have extra store tp anyways.
If it does break your 6 hit build and you do not have equipment to compensate(there's very few other options in terms of gear) then yes you are probably better off with a NQ 492 delay polearm, I know at least for me in merit PTs ws's are ~half my damage now that I use a 6 hit build, it has greatly improved my overall damage.
While I'm on this topic here's a list of store tp needs for common polearms
Lances-492 delay
26 store tp for true 6 hit, 22 assuming drakesbane
+1 Lances-478 delay
30 store tp for true 6 hit, 25 assuming drakesbane
cletine-480 delay.
29 store tp for true 6 hit, 24 assuming drakesbane.
spears-396 delay
23 store tp for true 8 hit build (41 store tp for true 7 hit build, requires store tp food or sam rolls+ all store tp gear available for drg). this 8 hit build has more delay than 6 hits of a 492 delay polearm.
keep in mind that lower damage rating hurt both jump damage and ws damage, and the lower delay/more hit build makes jumps less usefull for getting tp (instead of getting 1/6 of the tp needed to ws you get 1/8). I generally advise avoiding these, love halberd is the only one I consider decent and then only for non /sam situations. Also sams are much more capable of 7 hit builds with these.
Iron Ram Lance-365 delay
33 store tp for true 8 hit build, an 8 hit build with this is actually lower delay than a 6 hit build with a 492 delay polearm but pretty much requires either store tp food or enkidu's subligar which makes you lose 3% haste of homam so either way you lose out. However, -10% damage taken can be very helpfull in many many situations for all jobs that can equip.
achilless' spear-346 delay
25 store tp for a true 9 hit build (41 store tp for true 8 hit build). 9 hit build has more delay than 6 hits of a 492 delay polearm. This is little more than a toy unless you expect to be unable to ws as high DPS is the only thing good about it.
