5/5 for a little while/where to go from here

Just wanted to thank my friends in Eternus for kicking ass in Limbus again and helping me to complete my Homam set last night. Just over a year to complete, and it felt great.

This story has a bittersweet ending unfortunately. A little over 2 hours after speaking to Wilhelm and obtaining my Corazza, my character was jacked from me while I was talking to some friends. We chased the little bastard all around vanadiel and watched him d.box and trade my shit on all my characters.

The person logged out before a GM could get to me so there was nothing that could be done last night. Today I logged onto my other character and low and behold I spy a Shmedly on my friend list. Thanks to Nycon, we were able to keep track of the little bastard until a GM could arrive. The GM has locked the account for now, and I will be contacting SE on Monday.

After my mule was hacked this past summer I followed SE's "guidelines" for keeping your account safe. It didn't work.

In the last 2 weeks, I have visited the following FFXI related sites: Wiki, FFXIAH, Killing Ifrit, QCDN, Mithrapride, Vanadiel Atlas, and Playonline. I am not saying any of these sites did anything, but it is where I visited and I have not downloaded anything for FFXI.

I don't know what is going to come of all of this, but when I find out I'll let you all know.

Hence the bittersweet. If/when SE restores the char, I more than likely will not have the Corazza anymore since I wouldn't have had it at the last backup.

That sucks, sorry to hear that happened to you (again). Hopefully things will get back in order in a more swift fashion this time and also with very little missing.

Trust me when I say I have thought about everything I have done in game in the last 2 weeks. Picked up a Boxer's Mantle, around 10 levels in Guard, 6 merits, the Corazza, around 1mil gil made. Lots of places for potential loss of time.

I missed something somewhere though. Password not good enough, or something simple probably. Hard lesson to learn.

I have 2 chars on the same PC, only one got hacked. I went to Atlas after I was at the POL linkshell site. They may have got it from saved files? Is there something I should look for on my PC?

I use Firefox, AVG, and Spyware Doctor and none have picked up anything. Is there something else I should try?

You could use your item return policy on the H.Body. Doesn't SE return any one R/E item that you lose???

I had heard that Atlas is still vulnerable, and had never gotten confirmation that it was 100% clean, even months after the initial exploits were found.

It's why I always use a secondary laptop for browsing anything FFXI-related (wiki, etc) while playing on the PC.

I use that usb flash drive option for my PW and havnt had an issue yet. Store my PW on my flash drive log in. Play for a while. log out, take out my flash drive. I was hacked earlier on in the year took 2-3 months to get it back. It sucks. >< gl Schmed

j/k bro. Sad to hear your account was hacked as well. Ive been hacked 3 times this year, so I know how you feel.

I do play on Xbox. I have 2 accounts, Shmedly and Glob. Glob is always on PC, and Shmedly is mainly on Xbox, but I do use it on PC when I want to watch TV. Usually on crafting days when I have 200+ synths to do. lol

I think I'm going to look into getting another PC. Use it for gaming and my current one for browsing.

As admin of the Mithrapride forums I can give a good guarantee to you that the MP website is clean.

There was however a critical leak in IE 7 and 8 that specifically targeted mmo accounts, this was fixed with an update about a week ago.
It might have come from there.

Other then that, I hope your character will be restored fully.
Otherwise that they will get you a new body soon.
