Hah your timing is perfect, I just dealt with this annoying fucked up issue with my brand new 8800GTS. There's a thread on the windower site about the 8800, and on the 6th page there's a post about a site that has tweaked drivers that fix alot of issues.
www.guru3d.com
Because the post said the nVIDIA ForceWare 100.87 Win2000/XP (32-bit) drivers, I grabbed those, and they worked beautifully. Just search for the drivers, and follow the instructions, or, nab the latest (which typically are the best I know, but I wanted it to work) drivers. To find em without much trouble, just go here:
http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?id=10
I'm using the 100.87, but the latest ones should do the trick (101.02 when I checked)
Download the drivers, uninstall your old ones (I am assuming you know how to do this

), reboot, shutter as windows resets to 60hz, install the new drivers, re-tweak your setting back to what you like, and boom, you're good to go.
