9 teens charged with ‘unrelenting’ bullying

Nice to see those bitches get what was coming to them. Remember the Phoebe Prince suicide from a few months back, pretty sad story. Really though, the school needs to be held more accountable for turning a blind eye to everything. They had a chance to end it, but did dick all.

Yeah, I can't believe the school officials aren't being held responsible in some way. I know they can't stop everything that goes on, but take a freakin' interest in what happens while the kids are under your care. I hope they throw the book at these idiots.

This has been all over the news and it is pathetic that nothing was done about it :(

Such a shame that this girl lost her life over this bullshit. At least Justice has finally been brought down upon those fuckers.

Things like this are why I miss some of my old teachers, who would remarkably fail to report various incidents in which they caught me beating up known bullies.

They'd stop the fight, of course, but I never got reported over it.

Guess it was their way of cheering for the little guy, so to speak.

Well, I was hardly the little guy in most of those incidents. Typically as big as the bullies in question, lol, and better trained.

God knows what it would have been like if my parents had held me back a year so that I was as old as the majority of my classmates.

lol I thought that may be the case, that's why I said "so to speak". What I meant was you were kicking the ass of the bullies, and as long as you kept to that they were fine with it. For all I know you weren't, but that's what I'm guessing.

As a victim of bullying when i was in elementary, this is nothing new. Problem now is that its gone to a whole new level of viciousness. Only God knows wtf has gotten into kids nowadays that they are more meanspirited than a pack of rabid rats. The teachers don't help either since most tend to just turn a blind eye to the problem. I agree, hope the book gets thrown at both the students responsible AND the educators who did diddly shit for this poor student.

I practice nonviolence, right up until the point where I practice controlled violence, and there is functionally no warmup, so to speak, during the transition. And I can't abide bullies.

Which didn't stop them from trying to exploit what they perceived as weakness in my reluctance to engage in violence. Right up until the point where my tolerance was exhausted. Initially I simply made sure that they behaved themselves towards me personally, but in high school I made it known that I didn't tolerate bullying in my presence. And usually all it took was a serious talk with the bully in question, particularly if we'd had a more vigorous conversation earlier in the year.

At times I wonder precisely what it was that happened to make things apparently different now, compared to what they were before. I think a great deal of it is a reluctance on the part of the educators and adults to engage in behavior that could result in litigation.

Corporal punishment has a place, particularly in young children, as far as I'm concerned.

This right here. My parents made sure to beat my ass whenever I misbehaved, which I feel helped me realize there were consequences to my actions. Unfortunately there are so many parents nowadays that are too scared to smack their kid for fear that the child, or some other stupid adult will call the police, child services, etc. on them. Remember folks, there's a difference between disciplining your child, and beating them senseless for no reason.

Yeah, that's a good point. However, I know that around here it's illegal to hit your kid in any fashion. Don't know if that's state wide or something more local. Another problem could be that the parents don't care enough to keep their kids in line. I've seen this sort of mentality in numerous adults and find it a bit disturbing. "Oh Jimmy put some kid in the hospital? LOL! Boys will be boys!" Ridiculous.

Funny website. I know I've seen it before, maybe from one of the previous times you've posted it. Maybe you should post it in the lol pictures thread in "The Lounge" ^^

Seems like three of the teenagers are refusing to go to court and the parents are urging the principle and superintendent to step down. I am so tired of parents constantly blaming the school system for their kids being fuck ups.

lol, really? Teenagers telling a court that they "won't go"? Yeah, fuck that shit.

It's a hair more complicated than that, lol.

Three of the kids are skipping their arraignment hearing, but they're allowed to do that, apparently. It's... in poor taste, so to speak, but not in contempt of court.

The parents of the victim are calling for the school administration to face some sort of penalty, in part because they supposedly contacted said administration regarding the bullying months before the suicide, and the school claims that they only knew about it days before. And if that's true, then they have a leg to stand on, because that would mean that the school ignored them on a matter that would ultimately prove rather crucial.

Oh snap, thanks for clearing that up Raes. That makes a tidbit more sense now.

I never had a problem with anyone messing with me back in school. I got into a few fist fights and one with the qb of the football team but other than that, nothing. Maybe it had something to do with me growing my hair long, listening to heavy metal and generally hanging around some badass motherfuckers. The fight with the qb of the football team resulted in him and I being suspended for 3 days and him not being able to go to the prom because his dad was one of the teachers. The good part was that neither one of us won the fight and neither one of us had leverage on other. This was a DoD school overseas and they are a lot more strict when it comes to punishing students who get out of line.
