People I know that play the game are confused on some things, and I am too.

1. In the menu screen, when we press triangle, what is that long number at the bottom beside our time and the symbol beside it?

2. What's the deal with the sky pirates den in the Clam Primer?

3. And last, i heard about chain ranks, and hunt ranks. Is there a difference? I know what hunt ranks are, but not chain ranks.

I looked for those answerd in my guide, but can't see it anywhere. If someone can help me out i'd really appercaite it.

Update: I've just been thrown into the Levianthan ship, saved and turned the game off for the night. Around level 12. Decided the 3 main characters are going to be Vaan, Basch, and Baltheir. This game is getting more awesome by the minute.

1. Clan Rank?

2. Added Bonus

3. Chain ranks are when you get a high battle chain and you get better drops/healing/support from them maybe.

To explain further:

Battle chains happen when you kill the same mob over and over again. You'll probably get super high chains in Leviathan because only two enemy types exist in that area.

1. I believe it has to do with those hunts. I suppose you get points out of every one you do.

3. When you kill several mobs of the same kind you get chains, as you do bigger chains your rank goes up (to Urutans in the sandsea are just great for that). As Xena said, they affect the drops, the status effects you gain and the healing you gain from them.

Hope that helped ^^ And yeah, the game is really amazing

[Edit] Sorry, didn't see Alyada's post, didn't mean to repeat what had already been said ^^

For even further clarification, it doesn't have to be the same mob, but the same -type- of mobs, such as all human type mobs, i.e. All Imperial Soldiers.

The number is your "Clan points" which increase by killing mobs, any mobs, it would seem. There may be a limit on how much it can increase from the same type of mob, or something, I really don't know.

Sky Pirate's Den shows trophies you've earned for various things throughout the game.

the sky pirates den is the equivalent of an xbox 360 achievement. Square said they loved xbox live and the achievements so much, they wanted to implement something special like that in their games.
The sky pirates den being the result.

For #1, it's the menu right, not in the clan primer so I assume you're talking about the # of steps you have taken so far, which affects the Traveler technick, much the same way time played affects the Horology technick.
You're talking about the # next to the game clock with the feet lookin symbol next to it right?

Ohh those are feet! Shit didn't know that. And that explains those 2 tecknicks i was confused about as well. Thanks guys.

I'm still confused with the whole quickening thing. I learned one for fran and it says hit R2 to thrust or whatever it said. First time I used it I did 750ish damage with hitting R2, then I noticed the R2 thing, did that and did 110ish damage. Of course the second one I did on Nidhogg so that might play a role, but other than that I couldn't figure out what was going on. Haven't got a chance to look through the guide to see if its in there.

No no, Sorrow, R2 "Shuffles";

When you first use the quickening, it just activates that one quickening, you can then Chain it into other quickenings (Or more of the same, if, for example, all you have is Fran's Feral Strike).

Now, when the Animation for her Feral Strike(Basic lv.1 quickening) is going, you'll see everyone's name, who has a quickening in the bottom right, greyed out, if this is what you see, you hit R2 to "Shuffle" hoping to see the names in white, but instead, the name of the quickening, I.E. "Feral Strike" or "Fires of War" accompanied by a picture of the button corresponding to that character's quickening. I feel this is unclear, but I can't think of any other way to explain.

Ah thats it shuffle. Couldn't quite remember that.

But yeah so far all I have is fran's first quickening. So what I'm understanding is when the grey name appears, you "shuffle" till the quickening name appears white, then hit the corrisponding button apperaing next to the other quickenings right? Does this also mean I can chain one quickening over again since this is all I have at the moment?

Whether I understood that right or not, thanks for the tip.

Yes, you can chain the same one over and over, it's just much more difficult, because with only one quickening, you need to Shuffle more. When you have 3 quickenings with each person, it's very common to easily get 15+ Mist Chains.

I'm not sure, My record is 19 currently (Could have been more, but I shuffled when I had Pyroclasm ready, so I wasted about 1.2seconds :()

My high is 14 :( got The light skillchain from it though, did upwards of 30,000 dmg I believe. So far for the ending skillchains I've gotten Inferno(fire), Cataclysm(earth), Torrent(water), Ark something, the lightning one (and coolest looking), and the light based one.

Someone in another thread said these aren't elemental based though, so are there clear more powerful skillchains or does it depend on the mob's elemental weakness/resistance?

They look elemental based or names may seem elemental based, but they aren't, only enemies that can resist them are those with immune to physical damage, and the ending Concurrence depends on the types of quickenings and amount of lvl of quickenings you do.
Here's the list of the concurrences and how to achieve them, from weakest to strongest

Inferno: Get 3 lvl 1 Quickenings
Catacylsm: Get 7 lvl 1 Quickenings
Torrent: Get 2 lvl 1 Quickenings, 3 lvl 2 Quickenings
Windburst: Get 5 lvl 2 Quickenings
Luminescence: Get 5 lvl 3 Quickenings
Ark Blast: Get 2 lvl 1 Quickenings, 2 lvl 2 Quickenings, 2 lvl 3 Quickenings
Whiteout: Get 3 lvl 1 Quickenings, 3 lvl 2 Quickenings, 3 lvl 3 Quickenings
Black Hole: Get 4 lvl 1 Quickenings, 4 lvl 2 Quickenings, 4 lvl 3 Quickenings

Best one is always used to, if you get 5 lvl 2 quickenings, and 7 lvl 1s in a chain, you'd qualify for Inferno, Cataclysm, Torrent, and Windurst, but Windburst would always be the one that goes since it's the most powerful.
Now if you had also gotten 2 lvl 3 Quickenings alongside the 5 lvl 2s and 7 lvl 1s, you'd qualify for 5, Inferno, Catacylsm, Torrent, Windburst, Ark Blast, but Ark Blast would always go off.

And to unlock an "achievement" in the Sky Pirate's Den you need to see all 8 Concurrences.
