Meh ... didn't really make me want to play again. First of all, a large portion of the cutscenes reviewed at the beginning come from high-level, "endgame" stuff from each expansion ... things I never personally experienced. For the 60% (a personal, out-of-my-ass estimate) of the playerbase that has never actually seen these things, the title "recollection" is wildly inaccurate.
Hell, I don't know, maybe they're low-mid level stuff that almost everyone has seen, but aside from Bahamut springing from the ocean, I certainly don't remember any of it.
In every MMORPG I've been in, no matter how hard I try, I just can't make myself the sort of person that works for months on end to see that content at all ... let alone rush to be first. I'm just not that kind of player. Rather, I'm the guy that spends a full year to gain three or four levels, and uses the rest of the time to fish and talk. The guy that you USED to be friends with, but it was difficult for you to relate to him because he wasn't "keeping up" with your rate of progress. As you go on to God-runs, Dynamis activities, etc., I'm still fishing.
The rest was sort of nifty to watch at first, as each job gets its featured moment. In the end, though, if you actually HAVE played FFXI, you'll know it basically boils down to a laser-light show with a few people soloing basic mobs lower in level. I think that (in the end) it would serve better to attract non-FFXI players, rather than to reclaim lost ones.
This video will definitely appeal to people who are in the game for the combat/partying/raid aspects. For the crafter-social types, it serves only to remind you of elements of the game that lead you to quit in the first place. At least, that's what it did for me.
