A glimmer of hope for Somalia

I'm going to take a guess that "Regional leaders" translates to "Warlords that supplied the pirates arsenal and don't want world armies to come down on them like a bag of bricks".

The pirates are there because they got tired of having nuclear waste dumped on them and their food illegally fished/stolen from them when they're one of the poorest countries on earth.
As far as Somalia is concerned it's a step back because getting shot at by the USA if they accidentally grab a US citizen STILL means they lived longer than they would putting up with radiation or starving to death.
Sure the piracy is out of hand with the fisherman( who originally became pirates) getting robbed but as it stands they're still in a better position imo than previously.

There's been a huge surge of Somalians moving into my little town in the last two years. They've been coming here to work at the beef plant. Apparantly some organization sets them up with a car, a job, and a place to live so they can move here and get out of that shit hole they live in.

Well, in the last two years I've discovered that Somalians are rude, inconsiderate, don't know how to drive a car, don't give a flying fuck about American customs or rules, and on top of it all every time I get milk I have to watch them in Wal-Mart treating their women like fuckin dogs. Fuck Somalia. I hope someone bombs the shit out of that country.

Seriously, who would have thought that being so poor would make you such a dick? You'd think they would be grateful they got to come here and get a job and a new life when alot of Americans can't even get it that good.

This. Hell, I'd bet the pirates didn't even really start out that way, it's just their justification for their actions. It's not a "coastal patrol", it's piracy.

If the Somali pirates were really that into stopping the actions of supposed illegal fishing and dumping, they'd have invested some of the money they spent on weaponry into video cameras, and gone and gotten proof of the aforementioned actions.
