I wasn't going to say anything, but now drecant's flamed tyrion which just pisses me off.

So last night, blah blah, I start putting together a BCNM 40 party with my good friend Imaginous, and I ask cherubael. Then faydryth sends me a /tell saying that he can't do it tonight but he has an interested friend (drecant). So I think "Okay, save me some trouble." He invites a DRK (meximan) and a RNG (aragosi).

So we meet up in jeuno, then airship to windurst. Meximan missed the ship. Cherubael, Imaginous, and Aragosi forgot to get orbs. There are 2 level 40+ blms on the ship, so they just warp II back to jeuno. Drecant throws a bitch fit "OMG I CANT BELIVE YOU FORGOT THAT  ." So I'm just like dude, relax, it happens.

So they all airship back to windurst eventually. We hit giddeus, and win our first BCNM. On the second BCNM, there was a positioning problem which was partially my fault for not backing up and partially Drecant's fault for pulling hate (but he'll never admit it). Anyway, drecant /randomed the lowest so we used his orb. So we die, we HP, Drecant starts screaming about how we wasted his seals and ruined his fucking life (which is interesting, considering he's been posting that RL problems are important). So after 20 minutes of screaming, we all go back for another shot (drecant gets another orb). Drecant repeatedly /tells me and imaginous that it's so unfair and that he wants compensation. We didn't want to give him anything but we were just like FINE you can have one of our jewels if you stop your bitching. So we go again, and we die again, because of me. Yup, it was my fault. I cast ballad too early, they all woke up and killed me. It was a mistake, it happens, and at this point our team chemistry was shot anyway.

So Drecant pitches another bitch fit, and at this point everyone tells him to shut up. He dropped the party before I got a chance to boot him, and meximan went with him.

But that wasn't all. Drecant continues to /tell imaginous and me. He's demanding compensation, and for a while we were laughing, then he told imaginous that he wanted his erase scroll, which resulted in a /blist. THEN he sent me a /tell saying something like "SEE WHY MARY'S HORN IS BETTER NOW?" (I didn't miss sleep the whole time, Mary's horn would just increase duration.) So I told him that that was the risk he took by partying with me and that if he didn't like it then I would have found someone else. He didn't like that, and well, I told him he was being a baby and /blist add Drecant.

One more thing. He was elvaan (as most stupid rdms are), didn't have level 40 gear, and in his regular leveling gear he was missing earrings, and I think a cape. He didn't use food either.

So after, we replaced drecant and meximan, went to waughroon, and had a ton of fun and made some good gil.

The moral of the story:
Don't be a whiny bitch, and maybe you'll get something in the end after all.

/comfort.

That's lame. ::shakes head::
'm sorry.

Two things:

One, I feel your pain- I've made that mistake before, where your timing on songs gets off and you miss a Lullaby. It's painful, but all you can do is dust off and go at it again next round. (And try not to be too jittery over your mistake so you don't make it again! lol). It can cause some soreness, sure, but when you sign up for a BCNM (as with anything) people have to understand NOTHING IS GUARANTEED. Even if you had won, you might've gotten a crap drop. No way to say- it's a risk you take signing up for BCNM.

Two, I do take offense at your RDM comment though. :)

He was elvaan (as most stupid rdms are)

Stupidity in a job is not dependent on the race of the toon, just the person playing. I'm willing to bet that there are just as many stupid Hume, Mithra, and Taru RDM's as Elvaan. (In fact, I think RDM seems to draw idiots like a moth to flame, judging from what I've seen). Now, I know you can argue that Elvaan aren't ideal mages- but a good player knows that, and has the gear to compensate. Just had to speak up, being and actual GOOD Elvaan RDM. ;) (And no, I'm not making that call based on my own inflated self-ego, but rather the testimonies of people I've played with, and comparisons of my own playing of the job to others I've seen. MY GOD there are some horrendous RDM's out there.)

In all honesty, Fellina, I'd love to get into a party with you - because literally EVERY.

SINGLE.

ELVAAN.

RDM.

That I have EVER partied with, I would not pt with again. They have all meleed at the cost of their enfeebs/dispels and generally were not a benefit to the group.

Drecant goes beyond that, I'll never forget leveling my second character's MNK in the Dunes in a pt with Drecant. He was so bad at keeping up the heals - the PLD was healing him.

The GALKA PLD was healing the RDM. And he called ME a moron for pointing it out.

I assume not much has changed since then.

Fellina is the kick-ass of all kick-ass red mages.

And you can't have her. She's ours.

I knew someone wouldn't like that comment, but that's how I feel :) . I'm with cubswoo. I've yet to party with an elvaan RDM who is better than mediocre. But if you're a great red mage, props to you, and I hope to party with you sometime :D . Actually Fellina, I've heard nothing but good things about you. And people have this major problem in this game with not understanding that nothing is guaranteed.

But seriously, I was in a party two days ago, as my bard. NOW, knowing that it would screw up song positioning, the RDM INSISTED on meleeing. "I don't need ballad." Yeah, well I want you to have ballad and not ruin my efficiency. Then he gave me the whole it's my $13 a month spiel. I HATE THAT EXCUSE because I pay for the game too, just because you pay for it doesn't give you the right to ruin it for others.

Im an Elvaan RDM and i would gladly go toe to toe against any other race's RDM. Just because elvaan lack INT doesnt make us all dumb. What makes a char good/bad is the person playing it at there computer. Yes I have seen GOOD Galka BLM and WHM that I would trust over certen Taru's out there.

Yeah Fellina is right, it isn't really the race that makes the job better or worse, it is mostly how the person plays it.

I remember the worst RDM I ever pted with was unfortunately part of my ex-static. His name was Darcel, and he was probably the most incopetent person I have ever seen. He believed that just because RDM could wear Centurion's armor and swords, that RDM were a melee class with spells, like paladins. I swear to God, he only casted haste, phalanx, refresh and protect on himself. No matter how many times others would ask for haste or refresh, he wouldn't do it. He also always meleed all the time. Whenever we confronted him about it, he would always say that his melee damage was necessary for cutting down the battle time.

ARG!!!! All he did was 3-4 dmg each hit, then 55 dmg with a 300% TP which he usually used while we were trying to do SC's. He didn't have Dispel, which can be OK since it is pretty expensive (I believe). His solution to this was to lvl up thief to 15 while we were not in PT. Somehow, gilfinder and treasure hunter would magically make him rich beyond his wildest dreams.....wrong. TH and gilfinder only help.

We also gave him gil to help him get Dispel faster. He actually had the nerve to buy an expensive bow and 10 stacks of arrows with the gil we gave him instead of Dispel! He said he needed to lvl up his archery. We asked him what lvl it was, and he said it was ZERO. All he did was miss, and he thought that wearing ranged accuracy + rings would help him to hit.

Now, after we kicked him out of our static, we have had some good rdms fill in for him. I remember the best rdm I ever pted with was a mithra who used a WAND and stayed back with the mages and did her job CORRECTLY!

/meh!

Sorry things went to badly Songi. I considered calling into work but eh, gotta keep my priorities straight right? Well hopefully Ill get a chance to try with you again.

BTW, i got a tell from Dracant out of nowhere. I had actually never met him before so I was just passing that info along to you. Not trying to make excuses, just pointing out the facts ^^

Being an Elvaan BLM (and Fellina's RL husband) I just have to respond to the "stupid Elvaan RDM" comment.

I think yur reasoning may be along the lines of: "Elvaan don't have the best stats for mages. Choosing to play an Elvaan mage is a dumb choice. Therefore, people who choose to play Elvaan mages must be stupid and therefore bad players in general." I could be wrong, of course. (My mind reading powers are a bit rusty as of late.)

Personally, I didn't know much about the game mechanics when I started the game. Thank goodness I didn't, otherwise I would have chosen a taru, and I like being an Elvaan. I'm sure other Elvaan mages might have other reasons, such as they started as melee and wanted to try a mage class. Regardless, you can make an intelligent choice to be a Elvaan mage.

As far a the utility of Elvaan mages: it's all up to the player. I've outnuked and outlasted Taru blm's in the same pt with me on several occasions. This happens largely when they are poorly equipped or waste mp on spells that are not effective vs. a particular mob. (Both mistakes I don't make.) I've also been outdone on several occasions by Taru's because they were played well and had better stats. But I've never been put to shame by any Taru blm.

To wrap up (an already overly long post) I'll cite an example. I was watching Fellina level her blm sub in Yuhntunga near the outpost (she was lv 26 at the time). The pt consisted of Elvaan blm/whm (Fellina), Elvaan whm, Elvaan rng, Taru war, Hume pld, and mithra thf. So only 2 characters were the preferred stereo-type. They never failed to get to chain 5, no one died despite the Elvaan whm's "low mp" and I frequently saw xp awards near 280. She reached lv 28 (with xp to spare) in 90 mins.

{Hmm.)

I hate when people do BCNMs like that. It's so lame and unfair to have everyone keep all the drops from their orb only. Split that crap up and share the wealth. If you can't trust them, you shouldn't be doing a BCNM with them.

Hi Osse.

My reasoning for making that comment is that most of the elvaan RDM I've partied with were horrible, and the rest were mediocre. I think the reason is that because elvaan can do damage with swords (albeit very little, but some), they tend to misinterpret the point of the class. I've partied with many good elvaan white mages, summoners, and even a good elvaan black mage once or twice. However, some people do have that pattern of thought, just not me.

Fellina, I agree with your comment that RDM tends to draw a lot of bad players. I think that RDM has the most players that outright refuse to acknowledge the errors of their ways. We can sit around and complain about n00b warriors in valkurm, but that's because they're new, and they don't know any better. RDM deliberately refuse to play their job properly, and all of the good RDM that I've played with have been taru, hume, or mithra.

Any rate, all or most of my judgements have been based on personal experiences.

Unfortunately I have to agree as a Red Mage, there are a lot of people that take on this Job with out understand what our job is, on that same note, there are a lot of people who don’t play our job and don’t understand what our job is. I think they take it on because they see, oh I can melee, I can cure, I can nuke. They think it will give them a taste of everything, since they really do not know what they want to be. We are often described as “Jack of all trades”. Well we are not; we are “Master of efficiency” (I don’t like the term Master of enfeebling because it doesn’t explain why we enfeeble or why we have the other abilities we have).

The best way to do a BCNM is everyone pitch in 1 orb... do 6 battles and everyone sells and splits the money from their orb drop with the rest of the people... sooo much easier and less problems. So if one person loses their orb is doesn't hurt that 1 person so massively instead it hurts everyone in a much smaller scale.

Hi songi, sorry to hear about the BC woes. And id like to apologise for that rdm we had in gustav, and also about that ridiculous lvl gap >.<
i tried pulling as fast as i could to make up for it, and i hope the xp wasnt too horrible. In all fairness, pt lead did pull that rdm away from his dispel farming, but then again, thats got nothing to do with the meleeing so meh.
I just..... i dunno, i know, i mean, i KNOW there are good rdms around, but....... i just dont seem to ever see them.....
BTW songi, that Soul Voice double stack ATTK songs was ridiculous, i had attk of like 540 or something ungodly like that O.o <3 brds.
Anyway, thx for staying with the pt as long as you did, and i apologise for the behavior of some of the members thereof....

Oh, and id just like to add, my thoughts on when its ok for a rdm to mellee.

When theres no brd
when the mob has no devastating AOE that additional 2-10 dmg sword swipes will give it tp for.

there are more, but these are the ones foremost in my mind atm, due to experiences of the last week or so. the rdm we had in gustav, yes, we were fast chaining, so mp was not a huge problem, but in any other situation the rdm not getting ballad would have screwed big time. and another pt, in crawlers, chaining flies/beetles/exos. Dracant. our rdm.

ive given up asking rdms not to melee, they get all friggin pissy. But when i ask you not to melee its for a good reason. we had a mnk in the pt, a pld, a drg, me (sam) the rdm and a whm. so these flies, theyre getting tp like noones business from the wyvern, the plds fast sword, the mnks insanely fast punches (great mnk btw, Rikioh, cheers mate).
In this situation, it only hurts, not helps, if a rdm mellees. Not only do your sword swipes do little damage and give the mob more TP, Youre also in AOE range, meaning more ppl to heal, less mp to go around. KNOCK IT OFF and sit on your ass next to the taru please. "But if rdm arent melee why do we have swords huh n00b?" well, if rdm are mellee why can they equip the best wands huh? You know, the ones that do + int and +mnd? Put one on. NOW. Swords are for farming, Blm can equip scythes now, does that mean they should mellee? swords and rdms = farming, or soloing NM's/hnms. In XP situations, i dont mind if a rdm mellees when the coast is clear, but please, thats not your job and if theres a good reason not to dont gimme the old excuses about playing your way etc. you wanna play your way go solo in davoi, all i ask for is some goddamn common sense.
that is all.

Hi Grieve!

Ohh man, if it wasn't for our level gap and that RDM, we could've gone elsewhere and pulled 6K/hr EASY. We got good exp, all things considered (I consider 2.8k/hr at least decent when you have a meleeing RDM and a 5-level gap).

I get Minuet III in 3 levels, so I can't wait to see what Soul Voice + Minuet II + Minuet III is going to look like (hehehehe).

Well, I hope we party again if you level another job.
