Bingo. It goes kind of like this:
1) While your gear is equipped, you'll build up "attachment" to it.
2) After your "attachment" reaches a certain mark or level, you'll be able to choose to turn the gear into materia.
However, there is gear out there that cannot be made into materia.

Can we remove materia we've attached to gear?
There will be an NPC that will allow you to do this. When you do so, your gear will remain, but the materia will be consumed.

Yes. You can do this as many times as you like.

Can we trade gear that has materia attached to it? Or can we only trade the materia itself?
You can trade both the enhanced gear and the materia. However, exclusive gear (EX), as usual, cannot be traded.
